The 2027 Ford F-150 is receiving a series of mechanical, equipment, and option-package changes as Ford continues refining its bestselling full-size pickup. The biggest update is the replacement of the familiar 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 as the new standard engine on several popular trims. At the same time, Ford is expanding access to the 5.0-liter V8, including on the King Ranch and Platinum models.
The new model year also brings more affordable off-road equipment through the Tremor 400A and Raptor 800A packages, additional standard technology, revised towing availability, new exterior colors, and enhanced security features. Ford is also simplifying some ordering combinations while unbundling other options. Together, these changes give the 2027 F-150 a broader mix of performance, affordability, technology, and customization choices.

1. Ford Replaces the 2.7 Liter EcoBoost With a New 3.0 Liter V6
The most significant mechanical change for the 2027 Ford F-150 is the retirement of the twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 as the standard engine for several configurations in favor of the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6. The outgoing 2.7-liter engine served as a workhorse engine since the 2015 model year. Its first generation offered 325 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque. The second generation had increased torque to 410 lb-ft. The new engine is the next step in Ford’s downsizing strategy.
The New Base Engine Brings More:
- 2.7-liter EcoBoost gets retired
- New 3.0-liter EcoBoost arrives
- Twin-turbo V6 architecture continues
- Entry trims gain extra performance
- Ford expands engine availability
The coming 3.0-liter EcoBoost is a close relative to the outgoing 2.7-liter engine architecture. The engine is used in many vehicles already, including Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, Ranger Raptor, and Bronco Raptor. Power in the various applications varies, reaching 400 horsepower in the Explorer, 383 horsepower in the Aviator, 405 horsepower in the Ranger Raptor, and 418 horsepower in the Bronco Raptor. Official horsepower and torque numbers for the 3.0-liter F-150 engine are not announced. The conservative tune of the engine is expected so it does not compete with more powerful engines. The 3.0-liter engine will become standard on XL, STX, XLT, and Lariat trims.
2. The New 3.0 Liter Engine Brings a Performance Upgrade
The decision of Ford to replace the 2.7-liter EcoBoost with the 3.0-liter EcoBoost gives a performance upgrade for the 2027 F-150 at the lower and middle levels of the lineup. Although official figures of power are not announced for the F-150 application, the engine has proven itself in other Ford and Lincoln vehicles and has impressive output figures. They are 383 horsepower for the Lincoln Aviator and 418 horsepower for the Bronco Raptor. The conservative tune of the engine is expected for the F-150, but it should provide a noticeable increase in performance compared to the outgoing 2.7-liter engine and its 325-horsepower figure. This gives the buyers more performance without upgrading to the higher-level engines.
A Stronger Engine Without Upgrading:
- Existing applications show strong output
- F-150 ratings remain unannounced
- Conservative tuning remains expected
- 3.5-liter EcoBoost stays above
- 5.0-liter V8 remains available
Both the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 and naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 produce 400 horsepower and establish an important limit for the output of the new 3.0-liter engine. Even though the output will be tuned conservatively, it is still expected to be noticeably higher compared to the outgoing 2.7-liter engine’s 325-horsepower figure. The new engine reflects its already existing place in Ford’s lineup as it is not completely new and used in some high-performance applications. Rather than introducing a new and unknown engine, Ford is adapting an already proven powertrain to the F-150.
3. Ford Brings the 5.0-Liter V8 Back to More Luxury Trims
Tradition-minded buyers interested in the natural aspiration V8 engine will also appreciate the 2027 F-150 as it gets the opportunity to choose the engine again. Ford expands the availability of its proven 5.0-liter Coyote V8 to King Ranch and Platinum trims. Previously, those high-end luxury trims were restricted to the availability of 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 in either gas-only or PowerBoost Hybrid form. The availability of V8 expands the possibility to choose naturally-aspirated eight-cylinder engine for the F-150.
V8 Availability Expands Again:
- King Ranch gets V8 access
- Platinum gets V8 access
- Coyote V8 returns upward
- Luxury buyers gain more choice
- Standard output remains 400 horsepower
The new V8 availability of the F-150 reflects a reversal of Ford’s plans. The company initially planned to restrict the availability of the 5.0-liter V8 to only five trims: XL, STX, XLT, Lariat, and Tremor. The latest dealer order guide shows that the availability is restored for the King Ranch and Platinum trims. The output of the 5.0-liter V8 engine is expected to remain at 400 horsepower in the new applications. The timing also coincides with the increase in availability of V8 engines by competitors. General Motors is working on introducing the new 6.6-liter and 5.7-liter V8 engines for its Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups. Ram is also restoring the Hemi V8 engine for the 1500 range.

4. Wheelbase And Engine Availability Remain Carefully Organized
Ford is organizing the powertrain availability of the F-150 based on the truck configuration and wheelbase. All models using the 122-inch and 157-inch wheelbases continue offering the 5.0-liter V8. Shorter-wheelbase XL models will use the new 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 as the base engine. The careful organization of engine availability allows Ford to distribute its engines among the models and offer different configurations.
Engine Choices Follow Truck Configuration:
- 122-inch models retain V8
- 157-inch models retain V8
- Short XL models get EcoBoost
- V8 remains broadly available
- Engine choices vary by configuration
The changes mean that Ford is not replacing one engine for the entire F-150 range. The company is organizing the powertrain strategy. The 3.0-liter EcoBoost becomes the base engine for the volume-selling XL, STX, XLT, and Lariat trims, while 5.0-liter V8 remains available on some selected models. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 and other higher-level engines also remain in their positions. As a result, Ford creates a broader range of powertrain options for the buyers to configure their truck according to performance and preferences.

5. Tremor 400A Makes Off-Road Capability More Affordable
Ford is also upgrading the F-150 Tremor lineup for 2027 with the new Tremor 400A equipment package. The new package brings the opportunity to buy an affordable off-road capable F-150 with the core mechanical equipment included. The Tremor 400A is available only as Super Crew 4×4 with 5.5-foot bed and is powered by the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 and 10-speed automatic transmission.
Tremor 400A Focuses On Value:
- New entry-level Tremor package
- Super Crew four-wheel-drive configuration
- Five-point-five-foot bed included
- Twin-turbo V6 provides power
- Core off-road hardware remains
Ford reduces the price level of the package by removing some premium interior and convenient features. Thus, the Tremor 400A does not include the following equipment: power seats, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, power-sliding rear window, Bang & Olufsen audio, and Ford Co-Pilot360 Active 2.0. The 5.0-liter V8 engine is also unavailable for the Tremor 400A and becomes optional starting from the Tremor 401A. Although some premium features are missing, the core off-road equipment is kept in the new package. Therefore, Ford is positioning the 400A package as a budget solution to the off-road capabilities.

6. Raptor 800A Keeps Performance While Cutting Luxury Features
The Raptor lineup is getting a similar value-oriented approach for 2027 with the new Raptor 800A package. Positioned under the returning 801A, 802A Raptor 37, and the supercharged Raptor R models, the 800A becomes a trimmed content package instead of reduced performance package. It allows buyers to have access to core mechanical equipment of Raptor while having the opportunity to cut down on some convenience and luxury features.
Raptor 800A Keeps Core Hardware:
- High Output 3.5-liter EcoBoost
- Fox Live Valve suspension
- 35-inch all-terrain tires
- Raptor bodywork remains intact
- Heated ventilated seats stay standard
The Raptor 800A retains such core features as the High Output 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, Fox Live Valve suspension, 35-inch all-terrain tires, aggressive Raptor bodywork, and leather-trimmed heated and ventilated front seats. However, the package removes some features to create the low-content configuration. The 800A has a 400-watt Pro Power Onboard system instead of 2-kilowatt system and audio system with eight speakers instead of 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen setup. It also lacks head-up display and heated rear seats that were included in the higher Raptor packages. At the top, the supercharged Raptor R 803A continues to use the 5.2-liter V8 engine.

7. The Lobo And XLT 302A Receive Important Updates
Street-oriented truck buyers also get an upgrade through the F-150 Lobo package. Available on STX 200A trim, the Lobo package retains the lowered suspension, twin exhausts, and special 22-inch wheels. The package requires 5.0-liter V8 engine and cannot be ordered with Tow/Haul or FX4 Off-Road packages. As a result, the Lobo configuration gets a clear performance-oriented identity within the F-150 range.
Street And Mid-Level Trucks Improve:
- Lobo keeps lowered suspension
- Twin exhausts remain standard
- 22-inch wheels continue
- V8 becomes mandatory
- XLT gains driver assistance
The popular XLT 302A Mid package gets improvements in standard equipment as well. Ford adds Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 as the standard equipment of the package. This provides the adaptive cruise control, 360-degree camera system, lane centering, and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist. Also, the exterior appearance is improved as body-color front and rear bumpers become standard equipment. As a result, the mid-tier XLT becomes more premium and offers new technology that was previously available only for higher configurations.

8. Ford Simplifies Packages And Changes Towing Availability
Ford is reducing the ordering complexity of the 2027 F-150 in its attempt to streamline the manufacturing process and manage the aluminum supplies. Several low-volume equipment packages are deleted from the order guide. These are the STX FX4 201A, XLT 303A High, and Lariat 500A with the 157-inch wheelbase. At the same time, Ford unbundles some options allowing buyers to have more flexibility during truck configuration.
Ordering Changes Simplify Configuration:
- Several low-volume packages disappear
- STX FX4 201A gets deleted
- XLT 303A High gets removed
- Lariat 500A 157-inch disappears
- FX4 becomes separately available
The FX4 Off-Road Package, previously available only with the deleted STX FX4 201A package, now can be ordered as the separate option for the standard STX 200A. The company is deleting STX FX4 Special Trim and STX Black Appearance Package for 2027. The towing availability changes according to the new base engine. The factory Tow/Haul Package cannot be combined with the new 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6. However, the buyers can still choose the integrated trailer brake controller option separately.

9. New Colors, Security Features And Blue Cruise Expand
The exterior of the F-150 is getting refreshed with three new colors for 2027: Birch Sand, Neptune Blue, and Wild Green. The Birch Sand color will be available for the entire F-150 range except for King Ranch. The Neptune Blue will cover every trim level, and Wild Green will be available for XL, XLT, Lariat, and Tremor trims. At the same time, Ford is eliminating three colors: Antimatter Blue Metallic, Argon Blue Metallic, and Avalanche.
Fresh Colors And New Technology:
- Three new colors arrive
- Three existing colors disappear
- Neptune Blue covers every trim
- Security Package becomes standard
- BlueCruise trials become longer
Also, there is an improvement in vehicle security. The Security Package becomes standard for one year and available for optional 7-year coverage. Connected system with modem activation provides theft alerts, remote-start inhibition, and vehicle location assistance. At the same time, Ford expands the opportunity to use Blue Cruise technology. Every 2027 F-150 with Blue Cruise hardware receives 90-day complimentary trial period of Blue Cruise. Blue Cruise remains standard for Lariat and higher trims, after that, the owners have the option to subscribe or buy the technology.

10. The 2027 F-150 Brings More Choices Across The Lineup
The 2027 Ford F-150 combines its new base engine strategy with expanded availability of V8, off-road packages, additional standard equipment, simplified ordering, new colors, and advanced technologies. The new 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 becomes the base engine replacing the 2.7-liter engine on several trims, offering more powerful starting point. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Ford allows traditionalists more opportunities to choose 5.0-liter Coyote V8, including King Ranch and Platinum trims.
The 2027 F-150 Offers Broader Choice:
- New base engine arrives
- V8 access expands upward
- Tremor gains affordable package
- Raptor offers lower-content version
- Technology becomes more accessible
Ford also helps buyers to navigate the customization and pricing with the National Discount Packages page that exists in the ordering system. The tool automatically applies combined savings on certain options that are chosen together. Although official horsepower figures, fuel economy numbers, and prices are not revealed until the official announcement from Ford, the dealer order guide already shows the direction of the 2027 model.
