Ford’s decision to reintroduce the long-deceased flagbearer “Capri” as an all-electric mid-size crossover wasn’t universally welcomed. But prefixed with the word “all-electric”, the new interpretation of the (in the end) brief-lived badge gets a new perspective in a differently decades, and offer a potentially very sensible proposition to those who want more of a familiar name in the new electrical era. This is what the all-electric Ford Capri looks like, for what now is a completely different automotive segment.
The all-new Ford Capri is a design exercise that’s chock full of practical elements. It’s a fastback, but there’s very good luggage capacity, good rear seating, innovative cabin storage, plus refined highway behavior. It beats its more conventional SUV brother, the Explorer in some utility categories. It comes with a range of battery sizes, fast charge capability, the latest safety systems, plus the dual-motor GT version, so the Ford Capri electric is a family-friendly, high-performance crossover that also happens to be eye-catching.

1. Cavernous 572-Litre Boot Capacity
Although the Ford’s rear roof line is a little more angled, its new 572 litre of luggage capacity (to seatback) beat Volkswagen’s ID.5 twin with 549 litres, and it falls just ahead of a handful of rival EVs. Due to the coupe design of most crossovers, luggage space is sometimes a compromise but the Ford’s new luggage capacity matches one of its rivals, Xpeng’s G6, which comes with 571-litres. There are storage cubbies around the wheel arches some deep, some deep with a removable bin, as well as a two-piece false floor, which can be used to store the luggage in the middle and keep the charging cables safely underneath.
Ford Capri Boot and Cargo Advantages:
- 572 litres of boot space
- Larger than Volkswagen ID.5
- Matches Xpeng G6 capacity
- Two-piece adjustable false floor
- 1,505 litres with seats folded
Fold, the Luggage capacity increases to 1,505 litres, creating an almost flat load bed with substantially more manageable bulk than a conventional boot. The 2-piece false floor gives you the flexibility to section off the load bay according to your requirements, or create a specific location for your charging gear. Deep compartments behind the wheel arch intrusions mean that there’s somewhere to stow a small amount of extra kit, while the removable bin adds additional usability. Ford has also incorporated the parcel shelf into the boot lid which can be opened automatically as the tailgate is lifted by the user. This attention to detail shows that the Capri’s fastback styling will not come at the expense of functionality.
2. Movable Touchscreen with Secret Lockable Storage
The dashboard of the Ford Capri is dominated by a large 15-inch SYNC Move that is mounted in a vertical position in the centre of the cabin. The 15 inch comes with its own graphics and operating system that is unique to Ford and places some of the key functions of the vehicle within easy reach of the driver. However, in addition to being a regular infotainment system the screen also is unique in that it slides and tilts and can be positioned to a certain degree in front of the driver for easier viewing and operation while the car is moving. Behind the screen is a storage box, which makes the dashboard very multifunctional.
Ford Capri’s Clever Dashboard Features:
- 15-inch SYNC Move touchscreen
- Vertical dashboard display layout
- Sliding and tilting mechanism
- Adjustable screen viewing angle
- Hidden lockable storage compartment
And, probably, the biggest feature of the new screen is the hidden storage. When the screen is flat on the dashboard, the compartment hidden behind it is revealed. Known as a secret locker, it is a lockable area that can be used to hide personal valuables like mobile phones and wallets from prying eyes. Combining this hidden feature with a practical sliding feature offers even more reason for the driver to keep valuables out of sight. The sliding screen can also be brought closer to the driver’s left hand or angled to suit the driver’s personal preferences. Instead of treating the system as a fixed element, Ford offers the system as a flexible element with additional hidden functions.

3. Impressive Rear Legroom and Cabin Space
Plenty of leg room in the back seat Ford’s Capri provides passenger space in the back, in spite of its fastback roof shape. Rear occupants will have 640mm to 881mm of leg space and the Capri has greater leg room than most fastback crossovers, including the new Cupra Tavascan. The Capri is also 10mm wider and this opens up the shoulder room. Despite being more coupe-inspired in terms of the roofline, Ford has managed to preserve a practical amount of space for passengers in the back seat its interior is evidence that you don’t need to make a crossover look like a coupe in order to deliver a coupe-like roofline.
Ford Capri Rear Passenger Comfort:
- Rear legroom from 640-881mm
- 10mm wider than competitors
- More legroom than Cupra Tavascan
- Flat rear passenger floor
- Standard rear USB-C charging
Headroom is another key area for the Capri cabin. This fastback crossover is slightly lower and has around 60mm less headroom than the Explorer, which offers a more upright cabin design, however it will compare favourably with most of its competitors, enhanced by the optional addition of the panoramic glass roof which adds to the feeling of light and space inside. Rear passengers also have a flat floor to walk on, which provides a small but handy footwell underneath the front seats. Large door pockets and rear seat USB-C charging ports come as standard, allowing storage of essentials and ensuring that phones or tablets have their charge even on longer journeys. The high-set doors and wide cabin still suit the existing family appeal, too.

4. Versatile MegaConsole and Practical Storage Solutions
The front cabin of the Ford Capri is equipped with a number of handy storage solutions to make your everyday journeys more convenient. A very practical feature in the cabin of the Ford Capri is the large storage box that sits between the front seats of the vehicle. This is a generous size storage box that will hold a full-sized laptop or keep your bulkier personal items stored away. There is an additional tray area within the centre console to hold smaller handheld items and there are two cup holders. The glove box itself is only half-sized but the lower centre console has open space within it where you can store your purse or handbag out of sight.
Ford Capri Interior Storage Features:
- Deep front storage compartment
- Full-sized laptop storage capacity
- Additional centre console tray
- Twin front cup holders
- Wide front door storage bins
The quick access storage elsewhere is plentiful too, with the Capri’s front door bins featuring generously wide and useful pockets for larger drinks bottles, a secondary space in the lower console and a smaller centre tray to store everyday essentials. Drivers and front-seat passengers can stow items out of sight without cluttering up the seating area with loose gear. The deep storage box is the highlight though as it can hide larger items, such as a laptop, unlike the similarly-sized shallow bin. Glovebox capacity may be limited but this, and the other options, ensures the interior feels practical. Ford has clearly thought about how passengers put the space to use on regular days.

5. Clever ISOFIX Seat Mounts and Family Usability
The rear of the car is passenger-friendly and well thought out for fitting child seats. Wide rear doors and lots of available rear leg room can make fitting big child seats more convenient, without having to push the front occupants forward to accommodate the extra bulky 5 point belts. Even large rear-facing child seats will leave the front seats within a normal comfort range, without the need for the front occupants to move forward unnecessarily. These might seem a small detail, but they matter if you regularly travel with small children. The Capri has its own ISOFIX mounts on the outer rear seats.
Ford Capri Family-Friendly Features:
- Dual rear ISOFIX mounting points
- Generous rear door openings
- Easy child-seat installation
- Flip-down plastic ISOFIX covers
- Rear seating for three passengers
Ford has attempted to make accessing the ISOFIX mounting points easier by hiding them behind flip-down plastic covers. These covers are not separate items that you need to put somewhere when in use they’re hinged and fold out of the way so there is no faffing around with loose protective caps. The rear seat row is also wide enough to allow for three people across, making family holidays easier. Combined with lots of rear legroom and the practicality of not having a huge, wide opening for the doors, the Capri is actually a more family-friendly proposition than other two-door sporty cars. You can see that Ford didn’t just think about the integral electric performance they also thought about the needs of parents and rear passengers.

6. Refined Driving Dynamics and Damped Precision
Ford has a reputation as a chassis tuner, and the electric Capri is no exception, making the driving experience and the car’s behaviour on the road over motorways and country B-roads very controlled. Everything from the steering, through the brakes, to the way the crossover feels on the road is calibrated to create a balanced and confident car. The Ford also rides 10mm lower on its springs than its Explorer equivalent (and is equipped with the same suspension setup), giving it a sharper turn-in on corners, while still retaining a relaxed nature. The more fun drive makes the car feel more alert on the road, although it remains very comfortable.
Ford Capri Driving and Handling Characteristics:
- 10mm lower than Explorer
- Four selectable driving modes
- Comfort and Sport settings
- Eco and Individual settings
- Smooth regenerative braking controls
You get four (drivable) choices Comfort, Sport, Eco, and an Individual setting for drivers to tweak steering weight and throttle response according to mood and circumstances. The Capri also takes the edge off bumps, making the rides a little more comfortable for longer drives. The body control is natural to the touch, and the column-mounted regenerative braking controls make for a very comfortable, predictable brake pedal feel unlike some electric crossovers, which can come across a bit too go-kart-y. More than focusing on acceleration specs or battery specs, the Capri seems to be all about a balanced drive experience It handles and rides very well, and the various in-cabin tweaks help the car feel good on both daily drivers and road trip road warriors.

7. Extensive Electric Range Options and Rapid Recharging
There are a couple of different size batteries and motor combinations on offer with the Ford Capri, allowing customers to choose the one that best suits their driving requirements. The standard range Capri uses a 52kWh battery and a 170bhp motor this provides a range of up to 242 miles (our quoted range for this is based on a standard driving cycle) making it ideal for customers who use an electric crossover for their daily commute and occasional longer trips. The Extended Range rear-wheel-drive version produces 286hp using a larger 77kWh battery and has a quoted range of between 346 and 389 miles, which makes it perfect for customers who regularly do long-distance drives.
Ford Capri Battery and Charging Options:
- Standard 52kWh battery pack
- Standard output of 170bhp
- Extended Range 77kWh battery
- Range reaches up to 389 miles
- Rapid charging from 10-80%
Both 4WD versions are powered by a 79kWh battery and offer 340bhp. The flagship dual-motor all-wheel-drive model can accelerate from 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds, with a claimed 368-mile driving range. (a lower-bandwidth version of the same battery is available on models equipped with front-wheel drive). Charging is another area where the Capri’s electric credentials might be a game-changer, with single-motor models capable of drawing power at a maximum DC rapid charge rate of 135kW, and the dual-motor equivalent capable of accepting up to 185kW. Using a public DC fast charger at maximum capacity, the battery will recharge from 10-80 per cent in less than half an hour.

8. Five-Star Euro NCAP Safety Credentials and Driver Assistance
Safety is a key part of the appeal of the Ford Capri, and the electric crossover achieved the full five-star rating with Euro NCAP in November 2024. Based on the Explorer platform tested and proven to be a safe platform, the Ford Capri provides the safety and passive safety features needed to help protect customers in the event of an accident. The active safety technology of the Ford Capri relies on a comprehensive set of sensors and cameras to monitor its environment, supported by active safety systems that help to make it more pleasant for the driver in terms of driving and parking. Ford has packed some essential safety technologies into the Ford Capri.
Ford Capri Safety and Assistance Technology:
- Five-star Euro NCAP rating
- Awarded in November 2024
- 12 ultrasonic sensors
- Three radar units
- Five cameras onboard
Capri’s standard driver assistance features include stop-go adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, parking sensors and a reverse-view camera. It also has a system that warns drivers and passengers when it may be unsafe to open the door while cyclists or vehicles are approaching (exit warning system). Optional assistance features that buyers can add on include lane-centring assist, traffic sign recognition, a 360 surround-view camera system and a head-up display that projects important information on the windscreen. The assistance systems work to support motorway driving, parking and navigating congested city streets when combined with the five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, driver assistance has become one of the Capri’s key selling points.

9. Generous Standard Equipment Across Comprehensive Trim Levels
Ford supplies the electric Capri with three levels of trim Style, Select and Premium. The Style version will be equipped with plenty of essentials as standard, so this is unlikely to be the first thing to be upgraded unless you want a more luxurious cabin. Standard features on the entry level car include climate control, adaptive cruise control, seven speakers and 19-inch alloys wheels, providing the electric Capri with a good level of equipment so that customers can choose a higher specification if they want one. The three-tier trim setup allows customers to tailor the electric Capri to their needs, from practical to luxurious.
Ford Capri Trim Level Equipment:
- Three available trim levels
- Style includes 19-inch alloy wheels
- Select adds heated front seats
- Premium includes Matrix LED headlights
- Bang & Olufsen premium audio
Select trim adds on keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging, half faux leather upholstery, and heated front seats. The driver’s seat also boasts 12-way power adjustment, along with memory and massage. Premium models in the lineup bring Matrix LED headlights, larger 20-inch alloy wheels, and a hands-free powered tailgate. The sunroof remains fixed but adds to the open feel of the interior cabin. Premium trims also benefit from an upgraded 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system with a soundbar and subwoofer. Each trim level in the model offers an array of equipment, giving the Capri a mix of comfort and technology-oriented features.

10. Powerful Dual-Motor AWD Performance and Capability
The range-topper for Ford’s Capri is a dual-motor all-wheel-drive variation with a front motor added to the electric set-up. The combination outputs 340bhp and 679Nm of torque, giving instantaneous acceleration and punchy pulling power. As with many electric cars, the instantaneous torque means overtaking is instant and rapid, and grip is confident in various weather conditions. While the extra weight of the dual-motor drive version means it doesn’t handle quite as well as its rear-wheel-drive stablemates, it still goes very quickly for a family crossover, being able to do 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds. The power delivery of the dual-motor set-up is largely smooth rather than feeling aggressively tricky.
Ford Capri Dual-Motor Performance Highlights:
- Dual-motor all-wheel-drive system
- Combined output of 340bhp
- Maximum torque of 679Nm
- Zero to 62mph in 5.3 seconds
- Intelligent power distribution system
The clever all-wheel-drive system is constantly adjusting the balance of torque being sent to the axles to make the most of the available grip. This ensures the Capri has a reassuring level of balanced handling and stable behaviour as the road surfaces change. The linear delivery of power also makes the Capri an easier car to drive smoothly in the city and when pulling on to the motorway. Although the extra weight of the dual-motor system makes it heavier to drive than some other smaller-capacity EVs, the crossover has decent low-down punch, consistent delivery and can accelerate quickly thanks to the 340bhp output and 679Nm of torque, while the all-wheel drive system supplies more reassuring all-weather stability.
