Electric cars are no longer a small, niche part of the car world-it’s perhaps the most dynamic and forward-thinking part of the auto industry and it’s generating interest from manufacturers, drivers and car lovers alike. While the pace of EV sales has had its peaks and troughs, automakers are still pouring investment into new tech, more advanced batteries, and new car models. In the coming years, we’re going to have more choice in the electric car world than we’ve ever had before, covering a vast spectrum from sporting vehicles and luxury SUVs right through to the rugged, and even cheap, daily drivers.
What is most exciting about the coming breed of EVs is the move beyond efficiency and range. The new electric cars are becoming a representation of artistry, performance and personality. Some are breathing new life into beloved old nameplates, while others are brand-new designs and visions that seek to redefine what cars can be-making electric cars far more accessible and appealing to the average driver.
Some exciting models are expected to hit dealership floors globally in the coming years. Whatever your particular interest-fast, powerful sports cars, rugged all-terrain explorers, futuristic SUVs, or utility electric trucks-there is something coming up that is going to make car fans very happy indeed. Here are eight upcoming electric vehicles that represent the variety, innovation and excitement of EVs.

1. 2026 Chevrolet Corvette EV
One of the biggest changes the Corvette has seen, or likely will ever see, comes with the Chevrolet Corvette EV. For years, this car has embodied the essence of V8 power, unique design, and attainable performance; the shift to all electric power marks a significant turning point in automotive design for not only Chevy but for sports cars everywhere.
An Icon Enters the Electric Era:
- First fully electric Corvette expected
- Performance-focused electric architecture
- Potential all-wheel-drive capability
- Advanced motor and battery technology
- Designed to preserve Corvette performance heritage
The performance aspect will be the most significant with an electric Corvette according to the industry trends. Lessons from the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray will be applied to make an electric Corvette that employs dual front and rear electric motors for a state-of-the-art all-wheel-drive system. The predicted power for this new generation of Corvette EVs is over 650 hp with potential higher trims exceeding the 1,000 hp mark.
But what is most critical, the Corvette EV marks the arrival of the performance vehicle in its new technological era. Chevy will attempt to take what makes a Corvette a Corvette and incorporate it into this new world of cars. Combining electric torque with advanced handling and emotional appeal for over 70 years will make the electric Corvette one of the most impactful electric sports cars in this new age.

2. 2026 Porsche Boxster/Cayman EVs
When Porsche releases its electric replacements for its 718 Boxster and Porsche 718 Cayman, that will be among the most exciting performance car announcements in a generation, to be sure. That is because Porsche is the best when it comes to producing the types of sports cars that focus on balance, responsiveness and the involvement of the driver-a skill that it is hoped its new electric offerings will also exhibit.
Porsche’s Vision for Electric Sports Cars:
- Fully electric replacements for the 718 lineup
- Focus on handling and driver engagement
- Advanced battery and motor technology
- Designed to maintain Porsche driving dynamics
- Key step in Porsche’s electrification strategy
Electrifying lightweight sports cars is a completely different engineering task. The batteries are heavy and compromise balance, handling and weight distribution are now more crucial than they have ever been. Porsche is expected to tackle these issues in a custom EV sports car platform which, they hope, will maintain the agility and responses of the Boxster and Cayman.
Expect cars which marry the instantaneous response of electric torque with the sharp handling of Porsche cars. Both the open top Boxster and the coupe Cayman would seem to offer sporty cars which connect driver and car equally. In short, Porsche will likely produce the electric sports cars which set a benchmark.

3. 2026 Honda 0 Series Sedan and SUV
The Honda 0 Series Sedan and SUV coming next year signal a significant evolution in the way Honda designs its EVs. Officially revealed as part of Honda’s next-generation EV direction, these cars signify a brand new design philosophy that completely departs from simply making the existing lineup electric.
Honda’s New Electric Vehicle Direction:
- Built on a dedicated EV-focused platform
- Futuristic and highly aerodynamic design
- Emphasis on efficiency and advanced technology
- Part of Honda’s long-term electrification plan
- Expected to launch in 2026
Arguably the most eye-catching element of the 0 Series line up, styling. Both the car and the SUV have slim, long profiles, minimalist interiors and very aerodynamically sculpted shapes that allow them to become highly efficient and still develop a defined presence. Whilst current electric cars may favour a somewhat more conventional approach, Honda appears to be attempting to go in a new, more future-proof direction, positioning themselves firmly in the increasingly crowded EV marketplace.
Beyond styling, it’s about more than just how the car looks, Honda wants the 0 Series project to represent how they will approach electric vehicles going forwards; a heavy emphasis on lightweight engineering, smart software and advanced connectivity, alongside improved efficiency, all these traits point towards an electric vehicle designed to break the mould. Few details have been revealed for each vehicle, but the philosophy is evident and with these concepts at their heart, the 0 Series Sedan and SUV could very well be among the most important models that Honda have produced in their modern history.

4. 2027 Rivian R3 / R3X
The Rivian R3, alongside the sportier Rivian R3X variant, signify a significant step in the growth of the Rivian brand. While they are set to be released alongside the much larger Rivian R2, it is the smaller R3 versions that have really caught people’s eyes, thanks to their unusual looks and compact size that is also rumored to be more affordable.
Rivian’s Compact Adventure EV:
- Smaller and more accessible than current Rivian models
- Retro-inspired design with modern EV technology
- Adventure-focused character in a compact package
- Expected fast-charging capability and competitive range
- Performance-focused R3X variant planned
In addition to the styling, one of the things we love about the R3 is how it’s been designed. It takes a familiar, classic-hatchback-esque form factor and marries it to Rivian’s modern aesthetic, helping it look unique in an automotive landscape dominated by larger SUVs. Yet the smaller proportions haven’t diluted the sense of adventure that’s becoming a core tenet of Rivian’s image, with the R3 promising a car suitable for both city cruising and adventurous weekends, but also outdoor pursuits.
Elsewhere, the R3 is shaping up to be a compelling option purely from a performance perspective. In standard guise, we’re told the R3 will have strong range and rapid-charging technology, combined with a price that should be more accessible than Rivian’s other vehicles, while the R3X will also offer a more engaging and performance-oriented experience. With the pair, Rivian could not only lure a new demographic of buyers, but continue to demonstrate how EVs can offer utility, attitude and ability in an approachable size and price.

5. 2027 Scout Terra / Traveler
One of the most anticipated new additions to the electric off-road market is the return of the Scout name. Aims of Scout Motors brand is to stay true to the rugged spirit it had while also incorporating all that new-fangled electric vehicle technology. Their initial products include the Scout Terra and Scout Traveler which are built to be the definitive, off-roadable electric utility vehicles.
A Legendary Off-Road Name Returns:
- Backed by Volkswagen Group resources
- Designed for off-road and outdoor use
- Dedicated electric truck and SUV platform
- Strong towing and utility focus
- Modern technology combined with rugged capability
One of the differences compared to many electric crossovers that we see currently is that the Terra and the Traveler are expected to feature body-on-frame construction. This style of vehicle architecture is known to be solid, tough trucks, and truly hardcore off-roaders. This will enable the two vehicles to withstand hauling, towing, and rigorous off-road driving without issue. Given that generous ground clearance is planned, in combination with tough suspension and a suspension designed for extreme off-road driving, we can anticipate that both of the Scout’s electric utilities will be capable beyond paved roads.
Performance is also expected to play a significant role for the Scout lineup, with initial claims pointing toward impressive torque output, fast acceleration times, and competitive electric range that offers a unique balance of performance and utility currently missing from serious off-road vehicles. With this unique combination of classic truck tough-ness, alongside the efficiency, torque and torque curve of an electric motor, the Scout is likely to appeal to both serious outdoor and truck buyers, as well as a niche market for those wanting a modern interpretation of the traditional utility and truck segment within the growing EV landscape.

6. 2026 Subaru Trailseeker
In the coming days and weeks we should see the debut of the all-new Subaru Trailseeker, and it will be a highly anticipated milestone on Subaru’s roadmap to electric. In creating the vehicle for people who love Subarus for their all-weather capability, practicality and all-around great outdoors ethos, Subaru hopes to be able to carry those qualities into the new age of electricity, for both long-time buyers and those new to an electric Subaru.
Subaru’s Adventure-Focused Electric Future:
- Designed around Subaru’s outdoor-oriented identity
- Standard all-wheel-drive capability expected
- Blend of crossover and wagon-inspired styling
- Strong performance and everyday practicality
- Key part of Subaru’s EV expansion plans
The look of the Trailseeker is another defining attribute. By mating a wagon body and a slightly more angular, crossover-like approach the new vehicle is set apart. While maintaining the utility that is and has always been a hallmark of Subaru vehicles, the Trailseeker will look much more athletic.
Performance should take another major leap from a lot of the preconceived ideas of Subarus. At roughly 375 horsepower and quick accelerating with all-wheel-drive the Trailseeker is set up to be a fun, competent EV. It will also boast quick charging times and what are to be thought of as class-leading range options. When combined with Subaru’s historically proven ruggedness and confidence inspiring handling the Trailseeker could prove to be one of Subaru’s best electric models.

7. 2026 Jeep Recon
It’s a very significant vehicle in Jeep’s move toward electric and probably its most important vehicle with regards to that. Jeep has not retrofitted one of its models but has designed this vehicle specifically as an EV from the ground up and it is tasked with maintaining the legendary off-roading capability the brand is known for in a fully electric platform.
Jeep’s Electric Off-Road Vision:
- Purpose-built electric adventure vehicle
- Designed for serious off-road capability
- Instant electric torque for challenging terrain
- Advanced traction and terrain-management systems
- Key model in Jeep’s electrification roadmap
An important element of the Recon is its off-road capability. The instant torque produced by the electric motors is something that should help immensely when tackling steep inclines, lose surfaces and challenging trails. One would expect Jeep to provide state-of-the-art traction control and specialized terrain and drive modes to inspire confidence when faced with adversity.
In the interior of the car, it would be logical for Jeep to combine practical functionality with a high degree of technology and modernity. Large digital screens, modern connectivity and advanced driver assistance features should complete this adventurer-inspired package and make it attractive to both dedicated Jeep enthusiasts as well as first-time electric car buyers.

8. 2027 Slate Truck
The Slate Truck is gaining notice as it’s taking a somewhat radical path away from most modern electric trucks. Where most EV trucks are competing with blistering horsepower, luxo features and high prices, the Slate truck is being built to be affordable, utility-focused and customizable by the end user. This strategy will target buyers who are looking for a simple, working electric truck and not necessarily a display of new technology.
A Different Kind of Electric Pickup:
- Focus on affordability and accessibility
- Designed around practicality and everyday use
- Modular and customizable vehicle concept
- Lower-cost alternative to premium electric trucks
- Emphasis on real-world utility over excess performance
Perhaps the biggest selling point of the vehicle is its anticipated starting price. By focusing on “keeping the design simple and building it with only the necessary components, a small business owner or commuter will now be able to buy a truly electric truck at a cost that fits their budget and is comparable to their current internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle.” This design would likely make it ideal for small business owners or a beginner EV customer.
A second advantage of the Slate Truck is its customizable nature. With a modular platform owners should be able to tailor the electric truck to meet any given need. Use it as a work truck during the week or a transportation and utility vehicle over the weekend, all without increasing ownership costs drastically.
