It’s as if electric and luxury cars were always meant to be. Quiet, smooth, seamless; the way electricity moves seems the natural fit for a luxury car, the ultimate state of comfort and refinement. That state of the art was once exclusively the territory of enormous combustion engined saloons, but that concept has been remade into what electric can do; today, luxury electric cars can take the shape of, or convincingly claim to be, a saloon, an SUV or even a coupe.
These technological monoliths are now each fighting for the position of “best car in the world”, some aiming at a sublime experience from the chauffeur’s seat and others aiming for a powerful experience from behind the wheel for a captain of industry. This review weeds through the excess of it all, considering which cars are the most lavish, the most technologically advanced and the most capable that the year 2025 has on offer.

1. BMW i7
With the i7 BMW is making a bold, confident statement about future executive travel and it has the driver in mind as much as those who will have chauffeur driving it, and combines luxury elements with a heavy lean towards the digital environment in which we live our lives. A superb ride quality, compounded by a near silent electric powertrain makes for a very quiet and composed experience and passengers will find the cabin an almost private, sanctuary space in which to luxuriate in the considerable amount of space in the back, together with a selection of comfort accessories.
Core qualities of BMW i7 Experience:
- Dual purpose driver and passenger focus
- Silent drivetrain enhances ride comfort
- Spacious rear seating luxury experience
- Advanced digital interface integration
- Theatre screen creates cinematic feel
The dominant feature of the i7, though, is the astonishing “density of technology”: the innovation is almost everywhere you look. Giant curved screens fill the dashboard, while the optional 31in Theatre Screen is an incredible way to make the back seat your own little private cinema. Incredibly well done, these large screens also reshape your experience inside and inside the car to something far more involved and intimate. Outside, design is more divisive, but inside there is no denying the i7 is looking boldly to the future of the luxury automobile; with an impressive WLTP range of 387 miles, it backs this up with substance. It is a very welcome travelling lounge, and the way it’s shaping the luxury motoring experience.

2. Porsche Taycan
The Porsche Taycan can confidently be called an “all driver’s” machine defined not by indulgence and a wafting ride, but by handling and an engaging experience behind the wheel. It achieves an exquisite duality of everyday comfort and thrilling, incisive grip and control. The latest 2025 update takes this still further, with neck snapping almost supernaturally quick acceleration particularly in Turbo S form, proving again that for lovers of twisting roads and controlled, sharp steering, the Taycan is the measure by which all other electric cars should be judged.
Performance Traits That Define Taycan:
- Razor sharp handling and control
- Lightning fast acceleration capability
- Built for engaging driving experience
- Balanced daily usability and performance
- Strong connection between car and driver
Underpinning the Taycan’s potent capabilities is Porsche’s highly innovative 800 volt architecture. It helps enable constant high power output in a system that can facilitate incredibly rapid charging, getting the Taycan from 10-80% in just 18 minutes. Further boosting the practicality behind this performance package is the 2025 update, where a lighter and more efficient battery is fitted, boosting the WLTP range to an impressive 421 miles. Combined with speed and handling you don’t normally associate with a production EV, the Taycan remains the ultimate high performance luxury electric car with no sacrifices.

3. Lucid Air
It is the dual performance focus of impressive range and brutal acceleration that has rapidly cemented the Lucid Air’s excellent reputation. A real step up for a newer brand, it proves that newer entries are no longer simply trying to compete but are now offering innovation and cutting edge tech that the established marques will need to consider.
What Makes Lucid Air Stand Out:
- Industry leading long driving range
- Extremely powerful acceleration performance
- Advanced engineering from new brand
- Spacious and airy cabin design
- Efficient yet high performance electric system
There’s only a handful of vehicles in the automotive landscape that can boast the type of WLTP range of the Lucid Air which can achieve a max of 512 miles on a single charge. The fact that the worry of having to charge the car is minimized gives it some extra peace of mind for the longer journeys. It doesn’t compromise on performance in exchange for its immense mileage. Performance variants pump out over 1,000 hp and can beat some supercars in terms of acceleration. Its interior has a calm, open feel, with both luxury and contemporary design in equal measure. The car appeals to drivers who wish to combine extreme performance and uncompromising range.

4. Mercedes Benz EQS
It is seen as the electric answer to the revered S Class, with much importance being given to luxury, refinement, and technology. It makes for a comfortable and extremely relaxing drive; there is little noise and no effort at all as it appears to glide effortlessly down the road with aerodynamic design.
Luxury Elements Defining EQS:
- Ultra quiet and smooth driving feel
- Hyperscreen dominates dashboard experience
- Strong focus on passenger comfort
- Advanced aerodynamic efficiency design
- Long distance cruising capability focus
The dashboard incorporates a huge curved display called the MBUX Hyper screen, the most visually arresting element of the interior, which generates a futuristic yet also rather cozy cockpit feel for both occupants. There is attention to detail in every element of the interior to make use as comfortable and straightforward as possible. Where the EQS departs from sporting intention is with its exceptionally soft and relaxing ride which allows for journeys over large distances, and thanks to its 481 mile WLTP range is particularly well suited. Rear axle steering makes maneuvering more manageable.

5. Audi e-tron GT
The Audi e-tron GT marries performance with sophistication, defining its own personality in the premium EV segment. It shares its underlying architecture with the Porsche Taycan, but has a more subdued and calm demeanor. The car performs just as capably when hustling or driving calmly; offering adaptability without any of the aggression.
Core Strengths of e-tron GT:
- Blend of sport and elegance
- Powerful performance with smooth delivery
- Fast charging with 800V system
- Balanced comfort and driving excitement
- Striking and aggressive exterior design
This already advanced level of performance is taken to even greater heights with the introduction of the RS e-tron GT performance model which offers truly blistering amounts of power. Acceleration is breathtaking and the car easily rivals rivals. Charging has also been addressed with minimal downtime being ensured for long journeys. This is a car that offers fantastic levels of performance and yet remains comfortable at the same time giving an exhilarating and composed ride.

6. BMW iX
The BMW iX is a refreshing look at the potential of what a contemporary luxury SUV can actually be. Having taken an ‘inside out’ approach, the designers have really put emphasis on a more of a living room experience, creating the most spacious and comforting cabin space possible. Though at first, the styling may look a little eccentric to the eyes, it is truly a design that pushes the boundary forward in what is needed for today.
Key Aspects of BMW iX Design:
- Lounge like spacious interior experience
- Strong focus on passenger comfort
- Designed for long distance usability
- Bold and futuristic exterior styling
- Sustainable materials used throughout
With an official WLTP range of 424 miles the iX is more than capable of long journeys. It feels well equipped for trips away but not at the expense of comfort and ride. Performance is punchy and it responds well, every mile of driving felt very relaxed, merging onto the motorway or sat in traffic is a breeze. Interior wise, the tech heavy theme that BMW used for the i7 is also at play here, although the larger proportions of the SUV make it feel slightly more open. Sustainable materials throughout the interior and a sparse dashboard add to the modern feel. It is a fantastic option for those seeking the luxury and space of a larger car blended with electric tech.

7. Rolls-Royce Spectre
The Rolls-Royce Spectre has a place on the absolute pinnacle of the motor car industry. Driving it is so much more than the basic act of transport. This is Rolls-Royce’s first pure electric car, and they have done an amazing job in adopting electrification in a way that compliments their DNA rather than changing it. Driving it involves silence, silk and effortless gliding.
Signature Elements of Spectre Experience:
- Ultra luxury bespoke handcrafted design
- Exceptionally smooth and silent ride
- Focus on comfort over speed
- Interior feels like private sanctuary
- Designed for ultimate exclusivity
Where performance statistics are omitted in the Spectre; feel is prioritized. The ride is sublime and relaxing, cocooning passengers from the elements. Each car’s interior features handcrafted detail, which sets each and every one aside as completely unique. With a WLTP of 329 miles, the Spectre does retain a degree of grand touring capability, without diluting the ultimate luxury feel. The Spectre is much more than simply a car; it is an experience; which redefines the meaning of the utmost in electric luxury.

8. Lotus Emeya
The Lotus Emeya marks a pivotal moment for the brand, as it brings its racing pedigree to the luxury electric grand tourer segment. Having previously established a name for light weight sports cars, Lotus are now embracing a more premium and pragmatic approach with the Emeya. Performance is still on the agenda, but comfort is equally important without straying from what the brand truly excels in, engaging driving dynamics.
What Defines Lotus Emeya Character:
- Strong focus on driver engagement
- Inspired by motorsport engineering roots
- Lightweight principles adapted for EV
- Balanced performance and long range
- Designed for modern luxury drivers
With a WLTP range of around 379 miles, the Emeya finds itself in an interesting and desirable place: it is practical enough for long journeys, but retains that responsive feel that Lotus is famous for. It must be seen as a significant player in the performance EV market and drivers who want to feel truly connected to the road should find the Emeya to be a rewarding drive, one that perfectly merges the classic characteristics of a Lotus with the benefits of electric power.

9. Lotus Eletre
The Lotus Eletre announces the company’s daring entrance to the luxury performance SUV market and transfers its philosophy of driving dynamics into an altogether unfamiliar segment. It breaks down the belief that SUVs are the opposite of fun.
Highlights of Lotus Eletre Performance:
- High performance electric SUV concept
- Combines utility with driving excitement
- Advanced aerodynamic efficiency design
- Sharp handling despite larger size
- Built for both family and performance
Even with a WLTP range of 373 miles (377 according to the configurator), the Eletre is every bit the usability play that the performance hints at. I found it very assured and competent at every sort of driving, the everyday use of this thing feels really practical, yet the performance is certainly there too for more spirited moments. You could imagine it doing a long trip with ease, and despite its size, Lotus’s knowledge of how to make a car drive means it has an agility that feels authentic to the brand. The Eletre is aimed squarely at people who need the space and practicality, but are willing to pay for the involvement of a sports car drive. It is clearly a step beyond what we expect, but proves how electric platforms can still facilitate individual brands, rather than forcing a generic identity onto the whole field.

10. Genesis Electrified G80
The Genesis Electrified G80 is all about luxury without all the “wacky” stuff. Rather than building something completely different from the ground up, the luxury car is built off of a proven model and modified. It feels familiar without skipping out on all of the new tech.
Core Qualities of Electrified G80:
- Understated and elegant design approach
- Smooth and refined driving experience
- High quality interior craftsmanship focus
- Balanced performance and efficiency
- User friendly and intuitive technology
When it comes to range, the Electrified G80 has a very competitive WLTP range of 354 miles, placing it well among luxury EV choices. A supremely comfortable and hushed ride character means that whether you’re nipping into town or covering larger distances, the Electrified G80 continues to impress. The interior is undoubtedly well built, with every detail considered. The car’s strengths are its understated approach and attention to detail; it does not attempt to assault you with a high number of buttons and functions, instead focusing on giving you a smooth and comfortable drive.
