Subaru Uncharted: 338 HP, 308 Miles, and a Price That Undercuts Every AWD EV Rival

With the Uncharted The all-new 2026 Subaru Uncharted subcompact crossover is an all-electric commuter and outdoor explorer that is part of Subaru’s expanding EV family. This sibling to the larger Solterra offers an electric alternative for Subaru fans who want subcompact utility, one that’s similar in size and spirit to the popular Crosstrek but boasts the benefit of being all-electric and coming from the same technical foundations as its fraternal twin, the Toyota C-HR. The new Uncharted combines range, electric performance, and flexible charging with gear and styling choices designed to allow owners to meet the various demands of daily driving, whether it’s fast and cost-effective or the added capability needed for outdoor ventures.

There are two Uncharted powertrains available a single-motor front-wheel-drive version and an optional twin-motor all-wheel-drive version. The front-wheel-drive Uncharted Premium trim prioritizes range and affordability at an estimated 308 miles of driving range. Sport and GT models introduce all-wheel drive and 338 horsepower for quick acceleration. The Uncharted isn’t just about the powertrains, though. It also has Subaru’s latest technology and features like X-Mode terrain management, NACS charging, updated in-car infotainment, and the Eye Sight safety suite. Thanks to its adaptable interior and various trim options, the Uncharted is a competitively equipped crossover with a number of benefits.

1. Single-Motor Front-Wheel Drive Powertrain

Driving the all-new Subaru Uncharted will be the base Premium trim, which will be the first Subaru in the U.S. to get a front-wheel-drive setup since the mid-1990s. The single front-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor makes 221 horsepower and 198 lb-ft of torque, providing lively runabouts in the city with an estimated 6.5-second 0-60 mph run. Offering fun in the city and a longer range instead of maximum power, the front-wheel drive holds appeal for customers looking for a simple electric crossover to take to and from work and all their other activities, without spending the extra $$$$ for a two-motor setup.

Front-Wheel Drive Premium Highlights:

  • Single front-mounted electric motor
  • 221 horsepower and 198 lb-ft
  • 6.5-second zero-to-60 acceleration
  • Up to 308-mile range
  • Starting price of $34,995

The ability to have the most drive distance between charges is where the Premium FWD truly excels. With an estimated range of up to 308 miles per charge, combined with 140MPGe city, 118MPGe highway, and 129MPGe Combined, the FWD is also the longest range model for the Uncharted line shown in the chart that accompanies the specs. Available from $34,995, the single-motor makes for an affordable entry point into the Subaru all-electric crossover range, for those who care more about range and value than 0-60 acceleration.

2. Dual-Motor All-Wheel Drive Performance

The Subaru Uncharted Sport and GT trims feature the addition of a twin-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain that increases power output. The front motor produces 224 horsepower with the rear motor contributing an additional 117 horsepower for a combined output of 338 horsepower and 323 lb-ft of torque. Both motors power all four wheels to make the crossover offer a more powerful launch compared to the front-wheel-drive Premium. The extra power output makes acceleration more immediate and helps make the Uncharted a more capable highway performer, though Subaru still considers the electric crossover to be a utilitarian-oriented model.

Dual-Motor AWD Performance Highlights:

  • Combined output of 338 horsepower
  • 323 lb-ft of torque
  • 224-hp front electric motor
  • 117-hp rear electric motor
  • Dual-motor all-wheel drive

Unofficial testing has pegged the Uncharted GT’s zero-to-60-mph acceleration at between 4.3 and 4.6 seconds. That’s a solid number for a small crossover, and it also makes this a capable highway entry and passing machine. The power increase does slightly impact range, but the two all-wheel-drive trims’ ranges should still be practical. The Sport manages an EPA-estimated 287 miles with 18-inch wheels, compared to 273 miles for the GT with the standard 20-inch alloy wheels. The compromise gives buyers options on performance, wheel choice and range priorities.

3. X-Mode Terrain Management and Off-Road Capability

It also extends its outdoor theme to the Uncharted by offering equipment to enhance driving far from the pavement. The all-wheel drive units have 8.2 inches of ground clearance a little more than the Toyota. Like the Toyota, the crossover employs an independent strut front suspension and a multilink suspension system for its wheels and offset the extra versatility. The Uncharted is primarily tuned to have comfort during regular travelling while conversely having quiet, smooth travel. However, thanks to its ground clearance and all-wheel drive system, drivers can still feel assured as they encounter dirt roads, unpleasant weather, and other untarmacked courses.

X-Mode Off-Road Capability Highlights:

  • 8.2 inches of ground clearance
  • Independent strut front suspension
  • Multilink rear suspension setup
  • Subaru X-Mode terrain management
  • Grip Control technology included

The primary off-road capability of the Uncharted is Subaru’s X-Mode terrain management system. This gives the driver the ability to choose specific modes for snow, dirt and deep mud conditions, which this system fine-tunes throttle application and prevents the drive wheels from spinning too much. To that, Grip Control adds that capability to the Uncharted by taking throttle demand and individual wheel spin control, affording the vehicle the ability to overcome bumps and loose terrain. Neither of these systems is an off-road-only feature, but they are very useful tools when taking this sporty crossover into the dirt and woods.

4. NACS Port and Fast-Charging Capabilities

The Subaru Uncharted has a liquid cooled battery pack with capacity between 67 kWh and 74.7 kWh. As far as charging goes, a significant advantage of the Uncharted is the standard NACS port. This allows owners of the Subaru Uncharted to use Tesla’s large Supercharger network without the need of any adapters. Having the availability of a supercharger network can make longer trips more hassle free by utilizing the additional charging options. Between the different battery pack sizes and the standard NACS port, the Subaru Uncharted has a fairly flexible electric charging setup for general usage and travel beyond the normal local route.

Battery and Charging Highlights:

  • Battery capacity from 67-74.7 kWh
  • Liquid-cooled battery pack
  • Standard NACS charging port
  • Up to 150 kW DC charging
  • 10-80% in 28-30 minutes

During a road trip, the Uncharted is capable of providing up to 150 kW of maximum DC fast-charging power. When conditions are ideal, the battery can be charged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in 28 to 30 minutes. For home charging, the vehicle features a built-in AC charger that delivers 11 kW on Level 2 charging stations. Subaru also provides cold-weather thermal management to help ensure consistent charging performance in a wide temperature range. All of this caters for both overnight home charging as well as quicker charging stops during road trips, with native NACS compatibility reducing the need for owners to use an adaptor.

5. Modern Cabin Tech and Infotainment Features

Inside, the Subaru Uncharted offers a modern new look that steps away from the utilitarian interior that has been characteristic of the Subaru brand. The dashboard is simple in design, with orange trim accents and a squared-off steering wheel that emphasizes its sporty nature. A broad center console below the dashboard has an open storage area with two wireless smartphone chargers, so you can keep your compatible devices charged without cluttering up the cabin with additional charging cords. The interior is both functional in terms of storage and visually modern, helping to set this small electric crossover apart.

Interior Technology Highlights:

  • Standard 14-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity
  • Wireless Android Auto connectivity
  • 7-inch digital instrument cluster
  • Available 11-speaker Harman/Kardon audio

A common 14.0-inch infotainment touchscreen serves as a hub for the multimedia entertainment system with crisp digital graphics and easy-to-use physical controls. Apple Car Play and Android Auto are offered wirelessly, and a 7.0-inch digital display behind the steering wheel serves as the driver’s primary info display. The Premium and Sport trims offer the six-speaker audio setup that is standard in the Uncharted, while the high-end GT model is equipped with the more refined 11-speaker Harman/Kardon premium sound system.

6. Passenger Comfort and Flexible Cargo Capacity

Though its exterior dimensions are modest, the five-seat Subaru Uncharted car employs its electric vehicle architecture to deliver a functional interior. A lack of a transmission tunnel results in a level rear floor, making the rear seats feel somewhat roomier. Front-seat riders have 42.1 inches of legroom and 39.1 inches of headroom, while backseat occupants are treated to 32.2 inches of legroom. This configuration aims to deliver the benefits of a compact car while simultaneously bringing the roominess you might expect from an electric crossover designed for families.

Passenger and Cargo Highlights:

  • Five-passenger seating configuration
  • 42.1 inches of front legroom
  • 32.2 inches of rear legroom
  • 25.4 cubic feet of cargo space
  • 60 cubic feet maximum capacity

The Uncharted also has adaptable storage thanks to a standard power liftgate and its swiftback body styling. The rear seats in this SUV have 25.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind them, which could accommodate 8 carry-on bags. Folding those seats down completely makes for a 60-cubic-foot cargo space in the rear, which can fit a maximum of 20 carry-on bags. On the comfort front, front seats with heating capability are also standard, while the GT model further includes heated rear outboard seats, front seat temperature control, and driver seat position memory, making it a suitable car for owners or passengers with a lot of luggage.

7. Comprehensive EyeSight Safety and Driver Assistance

All versions of the Uncharted will include Subaru’s Eye Sight driver-assistance system. Subaru’s standard package of active safety technologies on the Uncharted includes pre-collision automatic emergency braking, lane-departure and lane-keeping warnings, and adaptive cruise control. These are the features that will help Subaru keep its continued commitment to protecting vehicle occupants while unveiling its new electric crossover SUV. Since these features are standard on the Uncharted, there’s no need to buy the highest-price version just to get the Eye Sight safety suite that Subaru is known for.

EyeSight Safety Features:

  • Standard EyeSight driver-assist system
  • Pre-collision automatic emergency braking
  • Lane-departure alert with lane keeping
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Blind-spot monitoring included

Other standard driver assistance features are blind-spot monitoring and a driver focus monitor. Those who want additional help can order the available Traffic Jam Assist and Lane Change Assist features. Top trims can get a 360-degree panoramic view monitor and a digital Smart Rear-View Mirror. Altogether, this range of standard and optional driver assistance features gives buyers varying degrees of driver assistance depending on their requirements. By offering essential safety features throughout the range, Subaru enhances the Uncharted’s occupant-protection equipment as a key portion of its overall value.

8. Trim Pricing, Value, and Market Competitors

Starting at $34,995, the Subaru Uncharted’s single-motor Premium FWD trim is $2,005 less than the base Toyota C-HR SE with a price tag of $37,000. The dual-motor Sport also has a starting price of $39,795, while the top-tier GT costs $43,795. The three trim levels give consumers the option of choosing a less-expensive front-wheel-drive model or a more powerful, all-wheel-drive trim. Subcompact EV segment Car and Driver rates the Uncharted 8 out of 10 points, an average for the small EV and ranks sixth place overall among subcompact EVs behind the Chevrolet Bolt EV, Kia EV3, Nissan Leaf, and Volvo EX30.

Subaru Uncharted Pricing Highlights:

  • Premium FWD starts at $34,995
  • Sport AWD starts at $39,795
  • GT AWD starts at $43,795
  • Toyota C-HR SE starts at $37,000
  • Car and Driver rating 8/10

But the comparison with the C-HR reveals different ways to have your cake and eat it. Toyota standardizes dual-motor all-wheel drive on its first trim, while Subaru undercuts the price with a 308-mile front-wheel-drive Premium variant. The Uncharted also has a half-inch advantage in ground clearance. And against the Kona Electric, which takes 7.1 seconds to reach 60 mph and has a range of up to 261 miles, the Uncharted outperforms in acceleration, adds 30-minute charging time at the DC fast-charger, and natively accesses the NACS Supercharger.
