Speed is like drugs and auto enthusiasts can never get enough. That’s why our manufacturer supplied performance tests always take it above and beyond the numbers released by engineers. Cars are tested using identical parameters: standard tire pressures, cars fully charged to 100% electric, gas cars with a full fuel tank, antenna positioned, air conditioning OFF, and results recorded by our Racelogic VBox logger equipment.
Thus far in 2015, we’ve tested more than 120 cars representing some of the most extreme vehicles available for straight-line speed. This group ranged from V-8 rear-wheel-drive machines to a 7,000-pound truck in size on 35-inch tires to high performance plug-in hybrids. The cars that came out the fastest confirmed our initial thinking: speed is now achievable and available outside the classic sports-car mold; several cars broke the 3-second 0-to-60 mph mark.
1. 2024 Porsche Macan Turbo Electric
With its rapid throttle response and a powerful, linear rush of torque thanks to two motors (front and rear), the new 2024 Porsche Macan Turbo Electric signals the dawn of a new era for the electric vehicle performance crossover. Porsche has finally figured out how to take these ubiquitous cars to the extreme as pure battery-powered machines capable of real pace, without burning a drop of fuel.

While put to work in hard straight-line track testing, the Macan Turbo Electric reached 60 miles per hour in 2.9 seconds. The number placed the crossover well under the 3-second mark, while highlighting how the push of electric power can impact a vehicle’s launch performance. The result means a vehicle intended as a premium daily driver can still achieve the type of straight-line speed you’d normally expect from a far more extreme machine.

Bentley’s 2025 Continental GT Speed Combines Luxury with Lumps of Lurgy In a one-stop shop of grand tourer excellence, Bentley’s newly updated 2025 Continental GT Speed offers not just the ability to gobble-up miles of motorway in utter serenity, but one of the most sumptuously appointed cabins around and a quite substantial lump of mechanical capability all wrapped into one. It proves comfort and quality don’t always have to yield ground to punchy.

A quick run out with instrumented testing and it was evident how fast this plush piece could get around. The Continental GT Speed was a 2.8-second car for a 0-to-60 pass which place it as one of the quickest of the lot over the year. What makes that performance stand out in particular is just how smooth and comfortable the Bentley is all the way there.
3. 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS
The design of the 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS is largely centered on the pleasure of driving; it aims to produce mechanical resonance above all else. Its lightweight construction, mid-engine positioning and razor-sharp handling lend to a very natural connection between driver, road and the powerplant. The roadster forgoes all-wheel-drive and instead harnesses a meticulously crafted ensemble to achieve intense performance values, over that of immense power output.

Against the odds for a roadster that is so lightweight, agile and driver-focused, the 718 Spyder RS was capable of beating many vastly more expensive sports coupes in the straight line. During our performance tests on the track, the 718 Spyder RS posted a time to reach 60 miles an hour of 2.8 seconds flat and to that I can only offer that that fact that all you need is to shave off some weight and build an extremely stiff chassis to achieve world class straight line performance, all without compromising the roadster’s tactile and intimate connection with the driving dynamics.
4. 2024 Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance
The 2024 Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance raises the ceiling on what a high-end sedan can accomplish today. In its current, electrified performance variant, traditional internal combustion is wedged into the performance drivetrain as the electricity component makes huge, instant torque accessible in just about the entire powerband, resulting in what should otherwise be a sober executive cruiser, but feels truly savage:

5. 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance 4-Door Coupe
The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance 4-Door Coupe is all about how far we’ve come with hybrid performance. There’s room for a couple of rear-seat passengers with four doors and then there’s hell-raising performance when you have at your disposal this level of acceleration. It shows us that not only can you have more doors and real life practicality but you don’t have to surrender high-level performance on track.

When paired with battery electric components, the internal combustion engine delivers tremendous torque to the road. It blasted from 0-60 in 2.4 seconds during track testing, and was consistently one of the quickest vehicles we drove that year proving electrification can be found at track-bred, four-door car speeds.
6. 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto
The 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto paired a beastly 6.5-liter V-12 with an advanced hybrid powertrain. The Lambo’s combustion engine revs up to 9,400 rpm. On both front axles, there’s an electric motor providing each wheel power on their own while there is supplementary motivation at the rear. This combination results in an all-wheel-drive supercar, integrating with the iconic characteristics of Lamborghini and electrification technologies.

At 1,001 horsepower and 1,044 pound-feet of torque, the Revuelto achieves astounding figures for a plug-in hybrid. Though it can silently be operated on electric power courtesy of a fairly small battery, engage the V-12, and everything gets more exciting real fast. In tests at $729,458, the exotic sports car shot to 60 miles per hour in an incredible 2.2 seconds.
7. 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
If the 2025 Chevy Corvette ZR1 wants to get fast, it goes about it the simplest way possible: all internal combustion, all rear-wheel drive. The heart in question is a 5.5-liter V8 using ball-bearing twin-turbochargers that can produce up to 26.1 psi of boost, while Michelin tires supply all of the necessary grip to apply all of those ponies to the road.
2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Highlights:

Although some 170 pounds heavier than the former one, the C8 ZR1 managed to cut back its 0-to-60 time by 0.7 seconds. When testing the model on a track, the Corvette sped to 60 mph in a sensational 2.2 seconds. Coming with a tested price tag of $205,265, the sports car can easily go up to 233 miles per hour and the model represents a truly representative American muscle-car.
8. 2025 Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package
Leading this charge is the 2025 Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package. While we’re talking a hefty $231,995 sticker price for the all-electric performance machine, it just flat hauled-hitting 0-60 in 1.9 seconds. That was quick enough to be only the second vehicle in our test field to break the 2-second mark, a space for very few.
Taycan Turbo GT Performance:

To save weight Porsche deleted the rear seats, the driver’s charge port, the rear speakers and the floor mats. Where other Porsche performance cars require the addition of the weight-shedding Weissach package for free, it is standard on this Taycan Turbo GT. This helped it to record 1.11 g on the skidpad and record better numbers for acceleration, quarter miles and handling compared to the Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire respectively. As far as we are concerned, the fastest car on the test based on all of the numbers.
