The American-bought F-150 is America’s best-selling vehicle and is undeniably one of the most recognizable pickup trucks that Americans would easily place even after seeing it pictured and then covered in nothingness. That fact alone leads it into the America pickup truck buyers, contractors/fleet use looking for work and drivers for everyday personal transportation for families/executives, needing the cab with so many configurations/trims and other engines and packages to deal with.

Knowledge about what distinguishes each trim can help the customer decide where their dollar should go toward a given pickup. Some are more toward functionality, and some can even incorporate luxuries and technological aids and a number even use a much higher quality hardware system for off-roading. Examination of lower and upper trim levels does show the true variety available in the pickup and what each configuration truly represents in the purchasing decision. It boils down to whether or not the buyer wants to include workload, luxury, comfort, and off-road performance, or a combination of each.

3. Ford F-150 XLT

A very well-positioned vehicle on the F-150 hierarchy, this XLT version is accessible enough to avoid excessive venturing into luxury sedan prices without sacrificing much in comfort and function; as SuperCrew prices rise slowly beyond lower models starting just above the $50,850 mark, more available technology and a deeper kit of standard items are welcome, particularly in an F-150 used for both family and work as extensively as the XLT makes feasible.

XLT Value Highlights:

  • Strong balance of features
  • SuperCrew starts around $50,850
  • Adds digital instrument cluster
  • Offers multiple engine choices

It comes standard with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with 382 HP and 500lb-ft of torque but buyers may also opt for a 5.0-liter V8 or a PowerBoost hybrid for an alternative and entirely different driving experience.

6. Ford F-150 Platinum

Compared to the King Ranch, the Ford F-150 Platinum adopts a more city-like definition of luxury. It abandons the cowboy look, opting for black or body-color monochromatic treatment combined with 20-inch alloy wheels and chrome highlights to present a sharp, sophisticated image. With the Platinum Satin Appearance Package offered, the level of aesthetic enhancement to this F-150 can be further dialed up.

7. Ford F-150 Tremor

Positioned between the street-biased FX4 trim and the considerably more extreme Raptor, the F-150 Tremor provides a factory-built off-road option without pushing the buyer into Ford’s most brutal performance truck. Available only as a SuperCrew with the 5.5-foot bed and four-wheel drive; it rides on 18-inch matte-alloy wheels shod with chunky 33-inch all-terrain rubber. To create the additional ground clearance – a total of 9.4 inches – special suspension bits are required.

Tremor Off-Road Highlights:

  • Built exclusively as SuperCrew
  • Standard four-wheel drive
  • 33-inch all-terrain tires
  • 9.4-inch ground clearance
  • Electronic locking rear differential

Other protective elements include stout skid plates for ample underbody protection; an electronic locking rear differential will assist traction across the entire spectrum of mud, sand, rocks, and every other challenging surface. Drivers also receive terrain-based modes that tailor the truck’s settings to match the situation. Under the hood sits the 382hp, 3.5-L EcoBoost V6, an alternative in a naturally aspirated, slightly more traditional sounding, exhaust-pipe-character (400hp, 5.0-L) V8. The Tremor interior offers luxury to complement the tough exterior, and pricing starts at $53,470 up to a fully outfitted SuperCrew at $67,710.

8. Ford F-150 Raptor

The top of Ford’s separate off-road lineage is the Ford F-150 Raptor, a high-speed off-roader built for crushing tough terrains at high speed. A widebody, grille emblazoned with “F-O-R-D,” 17-inch aluminum wheels and large 35-inch all-terrain tires are some design features that made the Raptor immediately recognizable. Low range 4WD combined with FOX Racing adaptive shock absorbers allow the truck to have 12 inches of ground clearance that it put to use tearing up just about anything.

Raptor Performance Highlights:

  • High-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6
  • Produces 450 horsepower
  • Delivers 510 lb-ft torque
  • Available supercharged 5.2-liter V8
  • Raptor R produces 720 horsepower

Every Raptor gets a high-output version of the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6, good for 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. If you feel 450 hp doesn’t get the job done then upgrade to the Raptor R. This model dumps the V-6 in favor of a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 that boasts an incredible 720 hp and 640 lb-ft of torque and sits on enormous 37-inch tires, making the intent of this truck even clearer. Inside, it gains a bit of a plusher touch with leather and suede microfiber trim, and starts at $69,905 climbing up to a $81,800 build with the range-topping SuperCrew configuration.
