Toyota Recalls 508,000 Camry Sedans to Fix Instrument Panel Display Issue

Toyota is calling a major safety recall for about 508,000 model year 2025 and 2026 Camry sedans in the U.S. The campaign concerns a software bug in the combination meter, the vehicle’s main digital instrument panel, that is 7.0 inches in size. In some cases, a blank screen may be seen upon start-up. For drivers, that translates to all important info that should be on the dashboard might not be there at the moment they get on the road. Vehicle information, such as speed, fuel level, warnings and more can go blank, which can be a minor software issue but a major safety issue.

The problem is that it’s a combination meter and it’s attached to more than just driver information. In addition, a failure during start up can cause failure in functioning the turn signals and hazard lights, and multiple audible indications can fail to sound. 2. Specific Camry Trims Are Affected 

Not all 2025 and 2026 Toyota Camry are included in the recall. The campaign is being restricted to cars with 7.0-inch digital combination meters. The recalled models are the Camry LE, Camry SE and Camry Nightshade. These trims have the same combination of instrument-panel hardware and software that caused the startup issue, so owners of the following trims should check their VIN and recall information.

Thus, technicians are forced to hook up the car to the correct service equipment and directly enter the new programming.

The repair engine should therefore start with the owner determine his/her Camry is involved in the campaign, then have a service appointment. Toyota expects to give more information via owner notification letters, but owners have no need to wait for the letters to check their recall status. Knowing this ahead of time can help owners determine that the update is required for their Camry, and help them plan for service as soon as the remedy is available.

Reporting points mentioned in the original article indicated that if the driver was not able to see the screen then he or she would be unable to see the critical alerts, which could result in a safety issue if a driver was not able to see a critical alert.

Toyota has also been subject to another campaign, this time concerning some 82,000 Land Cruiser, Mirai, Lexus UX and Lexus GXs. The recall was for problems with 12.3-inch displays and dealership service. A review of these campaigns reveals that digital displays are an increasing component of the vehicle’s safety systems, and when issues arise and cause conflicts or inaccuracies in information or warnings, recall programs can be extremely large.

There’s no need to wait for a formal notification; Toyota owners can determine if their car is part of the campaign by visiting the company’s website. Owners who have questions can provide the vehicle identification number on the company’s online recall look-up. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also offers a public recall database from which owners can determine if there are any unfulfilled safety campaigns.
