4. Lucid Air Sapphire

Lucid Motors is a name that you have not heard of, and you are about to be introduced to the future. Their Lucid Air Sapphire is a high-performance model that is electric and that simply astonished us to the point of rating it 10 out of 10 by SlashGear Chris Davies. It is not only an electric car, but it is a technological wonder that demonstrates the amazing power of electrically-powered cars, which is why it is a product that is certainly worth all your attention.

Sapphire highlights:

  • Breaks new grounds in the electric vehicle technology with unbelievable horse power.
  • 0-60 mph acceleration of less than two seconds with a range of more than 400 miles.
  • Demonstrates the vision of Lucid Motors in combining luxury, sustainability, and performance.
  • Breaks new EV innovation and reinvents electric hyper-sedan expectations.

The most striking feature of the Lucid Air Sapphire is the mind-blowing performance. Suppose this: with a host of driving modes, this monster can be as tame as 767 horsepower on the most docile setting to a mad 1,234 horsepower on the most insane setting! Such juice enables the car to accelerate 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds, a quarter-mile run in a scorching 8.95 seconds and reach its maximum speed of 204 mph in 17 seconds.

And the kicker is that it is able to do all that and still cover an impressive distance of more than 400 miles on a single charge. Talk having your cake and eating it! Although its cost of 250,000 dollars may be prohibitive to many, the Lucid Air Sapphire has an alluring, futuristic appearance of what the future of electric vehicles will bring in the next few decades as the technology evolves. It is a game changer, nothing more than that.

5. 2021 GMA T.50

Keep your hat on, the 2021 GMA T.50 is the game-changer of what we know of a hypercar. Gordon Murray, the giant designer of McLaren F1, went out to re-introduce a car that is driver oriented in a time when computers and flashy electronics tend to rule the driving experience. And boy, did he deliver!

Reflection on GMA T.50:

  • Designed by the designer of McLaren F1 as the ultimate driver oriented car.
  • Gives more importance to the sense of touch and manual operation rather than automated systems.
  • Has a 12,100 rpm redline and ultra-light design that gives it an unmatched driving experience.
  • The last great “analogue hypercar – a trans-classic and modern car.

It is a hypercar that is not aimed at the usual metrics such as 0-60 mph acceleration or even top speed, but rather at providing the most engaging driving experience in which the car is capable of. Although it has an unbelievable 12,100 rpm red line, the real magic of this car is the tactile feedback and the sheer pleasure of driving it. It is all about being attached to the road in a manner that not many modern cars can.

The most significant driver-oriented philosophy is the magnificent revival of a 6-speed manual transmission. Yes, you read that right! It is the modern version of the ultimate driver car and in case anyone is supposed to manage such a car, it is Mr. Murray. Most importantly, several people think that it is probably the final analogue supercar in history and thus it is a sad and very coveted piece of automotive history even before it even reaches its stride. This is not just a cool car, it is a philosophical statement.

1981 DeLorean DMC 12” by GorissM is licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0

6. 1981 DeLorean DMC-12

The 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 would, by far, be the car that could possibly be used to describe a whole generation and catapult into cult status. The uniquely desirable shape, with that special combination of futuristic and retro appearance, has propelled it to the immortality of the film industry as one of the co-stars of the legendary Back to the Future movie series. Who has not, indeed, dreamed of getting up to 88 mph in one of them?

Facts about DeLorean DMC-12:

  • Acquired cult status due to iconic nature in Back to the Future.
  • Known with its stainless-steel body and unique gull-wing doors.
  • Still a source of nostalgia, and can be restored and upgraded today.

At this point, in pure objective automotive terms, there was nothing that was especially desirable or exceptional about its performance. Its 130 hp motor was only able to accelerate the car to 0-60 mph in a little less than 10 seconds, which, as the context points out, makes you wonder how Marty McFly ever had time to move through the flow of time! However, what it was lacking in brute power, it more than compensated in pure, undeniable presence and cultural influence.

The silver lining to the fans is that DeLorein as a company has not died yet and, better still, provides restoration services to your own DMC-12! You can even have some of the cool upgrades commissioned such as an engine tuning package which will enable the stock powerplant to generate more than 200 hp and this will make it a notch closer to the modern standards. DMC-12 demonstrated that a car could arouse our fancies and reveal us a world of possibilities, and it became an iconic legend not because of its speed, but because of its eternal cool.

As the first production car was finished on January 21, 1981, the design underwent many small modifications to the hood, wheels and interior before production was terminated towards the end of December 1982, when DMC went bankrupt and the total production was estimated to be 9,000 units. Although the car is known to have a low build quality and unsatisfactory driving experience, the DeLorean has a cult following, partially due to the success of Back to the Future. 6,500 DeLoreans were estimated to be on the road in 2015.

7. Lancia Bertone Stratos HF Zero 1970

Discuss a car which is like it flew out of sci-fi movie! The Lancia Bertone Stratos HF Zero is a prototype car built in 1970 in one-off form and was used as a dramatic prelude to the legendary Stratos HF rally car. Its distinctive, theatrical wedge form had a significant influence on subsequent automotive design, and inspired much of the subsequent design of Bertone on behalf of such giants as Lamborghini and Alfa Romeo.

Features of Stratos HF Zero:

  • An extreme single prototype that re-invented the design of the futuristic cars.
  • Created by Marcello Gandini, which shaped the decades of car design.
  • Had new access systems, folding steering, and futuristic lighting.
  • Still a cultural icon, to the extent of appearing in pop culture such as Moonwalker.

The inspiration behind this spectacular car was the mind of Marcello Gandini at Bertone and the lines of the spacecraft were so impressive that Nuccio Bertone thought of calling it the Stratolimite before deciding on the final name. This bold design was in fact two years ahead of the production Stratos, an indication of its progressive nature. It even had a legendary rivalry with the Ferrari Modulo that was also unveiled at the Turin show by Pininfarina, and the design battle of the ages was ignited.

The Stratos HF Zero is loaded with exclusive features that render it to be unforgettable. Think of twin side windows which cleverly permit one to see built-in mirrors, a single piece front window which hinges at the back to give access to the cockpit and a triangular hood that gives a glimpse of the Fulvia engine. The steering column was even collapsible in order to enter and exit with ease. And there was a slender line of Headlights on each side of the front, and the back was mostly of mesh, with a row of taillights that were amazing, with 84 bulbs. And to add another piece of evidence of its coolness, it was even featured in the 1988 movie, Moonwalker, by Michael Jackson. Absolutely iconic!

8. Porsche 918 Spyder

The name Porsche 918 Spyder is the name that immediately sets the fire ablaze among the car lovers and with a very good reason! It is not a mere car, it is a screaming declaration, a genuine masterpiece of hybrid hypercar technology that perfectly incorporates the exhilarating performance with the smooth, aerodynamic style. You have to agree that Porsche have done themselves proud with this one and have created a machine that is as breathtaking to look at as to drive on the open road. It is the type of car that makes you re-evaluate all that you believed a car to be.

Breakdown of Porsche 918 Spyder:

  • The embodiment of the hybrid technology and pure performance of Porsche.
  • Integrates electric motors and a V8 engine to achieve the fastest acceleration ever.
  • Represents the art of engineering perfection with spectacular design.
  • Prepared the groundwork of the next-generation EV supercars of Porsche, such as the forthcoming Mission X.

The most interesting aspect of the 918 Spyder in the sea of hypercars is its clever and exceptionally powerful engine. We are discussing a plug-in hybrid system that is a brilliant combination of a naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V8 engine and two powerful electric motors, with a total output that is mind-bending and is pushing the boundaries of what is possible. This enables really jaw-dropping acceleration and speeds that will simply glue you to your seat, making each drive an experience you will never forget.

In addition to the uncooked, intoxicating figures, the 918 Spyder provides a final driving experience which is both highly involving and exceptionally sophisticated. Its advanced technology and creative engineering guarantees that each and every trip, be it a professional approach to a curvy road or simply a grand ride along an open road, is an experience. This hypercar is a strong statement of the uncompromising spirit of Porsche to push the limits, reinvent the possibilities, and produce cars that are not only cool, but truly legendary. It is an exciting dream of car perfection achieved.

The 918 Spyder debuted in March 2010 as a concept at the 80th Geneva Motor Show. The supervisory board of Porsche AG gave series development of the 918 Spyder the green light on 28 July 2010, following 2,000 declarations of interest. The final version was revealed at the September 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. In 2011, the 918 Spyder was also introduced as the RSR racing version of the 918 at the North American International Auto Show, using the same hybrid technology as the 997 GT3 R Hybrid, but with styling inspired by the 918 Spyder. Nevertheless, the 918 RSR never saw the light of the day. The second plug-in hybrid vehicle produced by Porsche after the 2014 Panamera S E-Hybrid was the 918 Spyder.

The Porsche Mission X, which will become the successor of the 918, was unveiled first, during the preamble of the 91st 24 Hours of Le Mans, in June 2023 and will be produced in 2025. The Porsche 918 Spyder has already been recalled five or six times since its release, both in front and rear control arm failures, and seat belt problems.

9. McLaren F1

The McLaren F1 is not merely on the list of automotive legends; it is the list to many. It is not just a supercar but it is a historic car, a legendary machine that has fascinated fans and dreamers over the decades since its release. It remains one of the fastest naturally aspirated production cars ever thought of even now, and that is an incredible accomplishment which says a lot about its completely innovative design and visionary engineering. It established a new level of performance that has hardly been reached by many.

Perspective on McLaren F1:

  • It is one of the most iconic and quickest naturally aspirated cars of all times.
  • Has a unique three-seat design and the driver in the middle.
  • Accommodates a mythical BMW V12 engine that offers an unparalleled aural experience.
  • Reinvented the concept of a supercar, which has shaped generations of car design.

The F1 is a car that is truly unique in nearly every aspect, much more than just its sheer, exhilarating speed is the fact that the F1 has a three seat cockpit design that is utterly unique. The driver being in his usual spot, right in the middle, with two passenger seats on either side of him, this daring, driver-focused design immediately informs you of everything you need to know: this car is about an uncompromised, pure, and completely immersive driving experience. It is a machine that is carefully crafted to be touched, to be felt, with each gear shift and each glorious rev of its wonderful BMW-supplied V12 engine reverberating with the pure automobile love.

The legacy of the McLaren F1 goes well, well beyond its performance statistics. It was a real standard, the golden standard of all other supercars measured during several years after its release. It easily blended a gorgeous form-follows-function design with unprecedented engineering functionality, and it was conclusively demonstrated that the real innovation does not need to lose a single bit of beauty or grace. This car virtually coined the term hypercar as it is used today, exuding an unidentifiable, eternal cool and carving its name in stone into the annals of automotive history.

10. Nissan Z NISMO

Okay, car enthusiasts, fasten your seat belts, we simply cannot discuss the Nissan Z NISMO. This is a bad boy, the most shocking in a long, distinguished history of performance cars bearing the legendary Z car branding. The market may not have as many direct competitors nowadays but Nissan has not been slack in this regard and has introduced a new line of Z cars that are vibrant with the NISMO version being the absolute powerhouse in the line with an additional 20 horsepower over the standard versions.

Review of Nissan Z NISMO:

  • The pinnacle of Nissan legendary Z series, the combination of the past and the present performance.
  • Provides a pure, adrenaline rush driving experience with accurate handling and power.
  • Sporty in appearance and grabs attention wherever it is.
  • Balances gives it a cheaper and more exciting look, which is attractive to purists who appreciate connection over luxury.

Our SlashGear Alex Hevesy himself just had an opportunity to step behind the wheel of the Nissan Z NISMO as recently as April 2024, and I tell you, there is a lot he can talk about. The only thing that makes this car so undeniably cool is the fact that it is so incredible to drive. It may not have the same sort of eyeball-flattening, stratospheric acceleration as some of its immediate, more expensive competitors, but its finely-tuned installation makes it all feel a lot faster and more involving than the figures indicate. It is the type of thrilling, physical experience that you would wish to be in it permanently.

And, of course, there are those undisguised glances. Nissan Z NISMO is an unquestionable head-banger, whose glamorous, violent exterior is admired by anyone who is lucky to see it. It may not be the best daily driver that everyone will need, with some of the creature comforts missing, or a huge trunk, and a nearly deafening engine, but to those who need nothing more than pure, unadulterated fun and a truly connected driving experience, this Z car is a winner. It is a philosophical wheel statement, which is devoted to the pleasure of driving.

11. Ford Bronco Heritage Edition

Who in this place is fond of a good throwback that will be perfectly compatible with the current ability? The Ford Bronco Heritage Edition is a completely epic reference to the old Broncos that had a legendary presence on the roads in the swinging sixties. However, do not be misled by those retro charm, this monster has all the contemporary amenities and rough capabilities of the modern off-road SUVs and it squares up well with the modern competition such as the Jeep Wrangler and Toyota 4Runner. It is the ideal, well-done combination of the old world, the classic style, and the inadaptable modern roughness.

Overview of Heritage Edition:

  • Honors the original 1960s Bronco in an exceptionally modern manner.
  • Produces 330 horsepower through a competent 2.7L EcoBoost V6 engine.
  • Integrates retro-style design with state of the art off-road performance.
  • Made in small quantities, and thus a valuable collector item among fans.

The first to be shown was in 2022, and SlashGear author Alex Hevesy had the unique experience of trying out a 2023 model earlier this year, and his raving review is the most accurate way to describe it: this vehicle just oozes character. It was so hard not to giggle with excitement all the time behind the wheel, he found it impossible. It is contagious that pure, unadulterated joy behind the wheel! This is due in large measure to its nostalgically re-created nostalgic look and the power-packed 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, which delivers a respectable 330 horsepower, capable of taking it anywhere, whether it be city or country.

However, it is not only about rough handsomeness and crude strength, the Bronco Heritage Edition is fully loaded with a plethora of cool modern options, which makes it not a show pony. We mean a large 12 inch touch infotainment screen and a high quality 10 speaker sound system, so you are not out of touch or out of entertainment wherever the trail leads you. It may not be an easy task to acquire one, however, as it costs 71,105 dollars and was produced in a limited edition of only 1,966 cars, which makes it a proper, exclusive limited-edition ride.
