Even as auto sales nationwide are maintaining a positive trend, a handful of new vehicles are experiencing much slower rates of sale. Data including Market Day Supply determine the theoretical number of days it would take to clear existing inventory based on current daily sales so auto dealers and manufacturers can more easily pinpoint surfeit conditions. Increasingly high sticker prices, consumer trends, market evolutions and intense production runs have all caused still recognizable models to experience sizable inventory crushes.

However, for prospective buyers shopping for a new car, the unusual amount of inventory could work in your favor. With so many vehicles sitting on dealer lots for so long, a certain dealer may be under more of an incentive to try to clear out that inventory which, on the more expansive dealer floor and in the showrooms, leaves way more room for dealers to give buyers a break on the price, incentives, rates or some other part of the deal. From the supercar to the super SUV, here are 10 models that are lasting the longest on American dealers’ lots.

1. 2026 Dodge Charger

Coming in at No. 1 is the 2026 Dodge Charger, which currently has a huge 385-day supply at dealerships across the country. Only 1,261 examples of the 2026 Dodge Charger were sold last month during the 45-day tracking period but with 10,796 units on hand, this truly is a slow seller. It is not only a practical sedan with a spacious interior, but it is also the first to be offered with the all-new Six-pack engine, and an average selling price of $58,560 on it is still quite pricey. Its massive 385-day supply is unlikely to fill up the country’s shelves with empty rooms for too much longer though.

Dodge Charger Key Points:

  • 385-day market supply
  • 10,796 units in inventory
  • 1,261 recent sales
  • $58,560 average price
  • New Sixpack engine

The Charger scenario underscores just how rapidly inventory can increase when production outpaces customer demand by so much. Buyers who are not yet married to a specific trim, configuration or color should have the luxury of selecting from several vehicles at various dealerships. Dealers storing these vehicles longer may be more open to negotiating incentives or financing options. The high inventory levels and low sales volume also mean shoppers have more time to shop around making the Charger especially appealing to buyers in no rush to buy.

2. Jaguar F-Pace

The F-Pace is experiencing a similar situation. The model is currently in inventory 2,511 units in dealerships across the US while just 304 units were purchased over the last 45 days. That results in a market day supply of 372 days, meaning the current inventory level is greater than a full year at current sales volumes. The average transaction price on the model is also $70,966 and while the Jaguar F-Pace combines crossover sensibility with Jaguar’s sporty personality and great driving dynamics, the model is significantly off the pace of most other luxury crossovers on sale today. That overhang of inventory could be the key point for potential Jaguar F-Pace buyers to consider.

Jaguar F-Pace Key Points:

  • 372-day market supply
  • 2,511 units available
  • 304 recent sales
  • $70,966 average price
  • Luxury crossover positioning

Based on the same platform as the Jaguar F-Type, the F-Pace is emblematic of how a product that consumers are familiar with can still languish with long showroom times due to the multitude of options available to prospective buyers. The non-limited nature of the model’s pricing and the $66,700 transaction price means it’s in a segment where every high-end luxury name can be compared, and as with other high-end models, hundreds sit across dealer locations. Buyers may also find some models that don’t require a factory order. Comparing locations can reveal wide differences in inventory status.

3. 2026 Volkswagen ID.4

Electric crossovers, like the 2026 Volkswagen ID.4, also were on the list of vehicles with hot sellers ahead. The current market day supply for the ID.4 was 349. With a nationwide inventory of just 1,172, only 151 were sold during the latest 45-day period and the average transaction price is $46,408, putting the ID.4 on the more affordable end of the electric crossover market. Like the other EVs on the list, it remains a slow-seller, though that is an expanding market for those interested in EV shopping. With inventory surpassing demand, the ID.4 and other EVs may have more wiggle room for those wanting to take a test drive and compare makes and models.

Volkswagen ID.4 Key Points:

  • 349-day market supply
  • 1,172 units in stock
  • 151 recent sales
  • $46,408 average price
  • Electric crossover model

The ID.4’s available inventory benefits buyers, as they might not have to wait for a specific vehicle to be built. With a large stock of vehicles already on hand, there could be a variety of colors, trims, and equipment combinations that are available. Plus, dealers also have an interest in moving slow-selling inventory rather than letting vehicles age on their lots. This means that shoppers who are open to certain specifications might have some negotiating power with the wide selection.

4. 2026 Polestar 4

2026 Polestar 4 318days of market day supply Polestar 4 ranks among the slowest vehicles currently on the market, with sales volume of only 93 during the 45-day measurement period, according to Wards Auto data. Polestar 4 has about 658 vehicles on dealership lots nationwide and sells for an average of $70,519. Thanks to its minimal distribution channels, absolute inventory is lower than some mainstream vehicles, but the speed of sales still is slow compared with supply. As the availability of electric vehicles in the luxury segment broadens, narrow models such as the Polestar 4 can take longer from hit to buy.

Polestar 4 Key Points:

  • 318-day market supply
  • 658 units available
  • 93 recent sales
  • $70,519 average price
  • Luxury electric crossover

For the Polestar 4, the supply status is an example of how niche luxury EV brands might see longer restocking times even in the absence of a large inventory. A niche vehicle might target a smaller pool of potential customers than a more typical crossover, which could show up in longer individual unit sell-down times. A buyer who is committed to the Polestar 4, but doesn’t necessarily need to order one now, might find value in an existing inventory. The longer supply window could also make dealers more willing to be flexible on the terms of sale, in what is bound to be a niche model.

5. Audi A4

This is a 279 market day supply for the Audi A4 with 2137 currently listed in inventory and 349 sold in the last 45 days. The average transaction price for the A4 is $55,463, placing it in a competitive midsize luxury sedan segment. It’s the long-standing recipe of great styling and performance with practical day-to-day usability that has been the A4’s reputation for years, but this model’s inventory situation is complicated a bit because the product line-up is undergoing a transformation for Audi. The automaker was planning to eliminate the standard A4’s gas-powered badge after 2025, as it moves toward A5 designation, while the A4 refers to the all-electric A4 e-Tron.

Audi A4 Key Points:

  • 279-day market supply
  • 2,137 units remaining
  • 349 recent sales
  • $55,463 average price
  • Gas A4 nearing transition

Nameplate-to-nameplate transitions can have an impact on the perception of remaining inventory, especially if customers are aware that something new is coming or a current model is being repositioned. There will certainly be shoppers who specifically want to buy the A4 since they like the design and the traditional powertrain, and some will hold out until the fresh entries are released. But the remaining inventory has to go at dealer level anyway, so that might make the outgoing A4 an interesting choice for those who are prepared to be selective.

6. 2026 Alfa Romeo Giulia

Alfa Romeo Giulia Stays Slow Market Day Supply Despite Allure and Performance Italian styling and driving sharpness aren’t helping the sporty sedan move quickly off dealership lots. Currently, the Giulia has a market day supply of 270 days. Dealerships are carrying around 150 units and sold 25 between this past 45-day cycle, on par with a used-car. At an average transaction price of $53,937 and without a bright spotlight on a distinctive European sporty sedan, buyers are able to get in the seat of an Alfa Romeo Giulia without being priced among the top 10 on the list. However, relatively low inventory and stiff competition from other European sport sedans has kept this sports car on a longer, slower journey.

Alfa Romeo Giulia Key Points:

  • 270-day market supply
  • 150 units available
  • 25 recent sales
  • $53,937 average price
  • Performance-focused sedan

The low overall stock level of Giulia units available for sale means that availability will be quite inconsistent between dealerships. Buyers may be shopping at a handful of dealerships before they find exactly the color, trim, and equipment combination they desire. The slow sales pace on the model also provides dealers with an incentive to move cars at the right price when they come along. For those already seeking the authentic experience offered by the Giulia’s steering and driving feel, shopping around may pay off.

7. 2026 Audi SQ7

Audi SQ7 A performance-oriented three-row SUV, the 2026 Audi SQ7 is priced in the six-figure range, which will naturally bring down its pool of prospective buyers. It currently offers a market day supply of 255 and total inventory of 402 units nationwide with just 71 sales in the 45-day period that were counted for this data. This averages out to an average sale price of $105,300 and represents one of the higher-priced vehicles on this list. Performance-wise, it offers an exhilarating drive, a large four-door SUV body, and high-end interior features, but at this price level, many other luxury vehicles are available to choose from, meaning individual units will linger at dealerships for some time.

Audi SQ7 Key Points:

  • 255-day market supply
  • 402 units available
  • 71 recent sales
  • $105,300 average price
  • Twin-turbo V8 SUV

Expensive Inventory Can Be Key To The Dealerships As Well By: Justin Pate Every vehicle that doesn’t sell is a loss of resources and up-front cost as well. A six-figure SUV may have a longer wait for its next owner than a more typical vehicle that costs a tenth of the price. Consumers researching an SQ7 may want to check inventory at more than one dealership to allow for different cars in different states of customization and, of course, pricing. The longer level of supply means there’s a better chance there are alternatives to the asking price.

8. 2026 Mercedes-Benz EQS

2026 Mercedes-Benz EQS, ultra-luxury electric “Too slow” The 2026 Mercedes-Benz EQS is the ultra-luxury electric offering in this group, and its performance is about as slow as the showroom time has been. The model has a 243-day market day supply, and there are 324 vehicles across dealerships nationwide in the recent 45 days versus only 60 retail deliveries to customers. With a $112,745 average transaction price, the EQS is arguably the most expensive vehicle in this group of vehicles, with the synthesis of modern car technology, executive-class comfort and long-range electric capability leading to a long list of other options for luxury EV shoppers.

Mercedes-Benz EQS Key Points:

  • 243-day market supply
  • 324 units available
  • 60 recent deliveries
  • $112,745 average price
  • Flagship luxury EV

The EQS inventory condition can be particularly pertinent for consumers evaluating potential purchase or lease. Incentive levels for luxury vehicles tend to have more room to maneuver for dealers and automakers since the transactions involve larger sums of cash. A consumer with multiple matching vehicles within a short distance of each other isn’t required to accept the first deal available, and if the vehicle’s in stock, may be less likely to encounter delays in delivery. For luxury EV shoppers, the in-stock condition is just one more consideration to note in addition to range, tech, comfort, and features.

9. 2026 Maserati Grecale

2026 Maserati Grecale Market Day Supply: 233The Maserati Grecale sells on aesthetics and branding above all else, a low-slung luxury crossover with Italian design and flair and a focus on performance. It has been slow to sell, however, at 233 market-day supply as dealerships have an average of 249 vehicles on hand, and only 48 buyers found their way to a purchase during the last 45 days of the vehicle’s sales window. The Grecale attracts an average transaction price of $95,889, which puts the vehicle into the crowded world of premium crossovers, an area where buyers can find established Japanese and European counterparts, along with high-performance options from other Stellantis brands.

Maserati Grecale Key Points:

  • 233-day market supply
  • 249 units available
  • 48 recent sales
  • $95,889 average price
  • Italian luxury crossover

The Grecale high cost and typically low volume also makes for a much smaller buyer universe, which might actually benefit buyers who are seeking the additional appeal of the Maserati emblem, but don’t want to pay full sticker price. Showroom inventory may give shoppers the chance to compare different vehicles without having to order a factory build, and to check various models’ equipment and specs for differences. With inventory often aging over time, these can be important factors in negotiating a deal.

10. 2026 Jeep Wrangler 2-Door

Even that most iconic American off-road vehicle still has high inventory levels, with the 2026 Jeep Wrangler 2-Door having a 230-day market day supply. There are roughly 8,020 two-door Wranglers available across the country, and 1,567 sold over the last 45 days. The average transaction price on the two-door Wrangler is $41,729 making it the least expensive vehicle on this list and it continues to enjoy strong off-road recognition, but that production volume exceeds immediate customer demand enough to create a sizeable inventory glut, making for a compelling case to shop around if a new two-door Wrangler is on your buying list.

Jeep Wrangler Key Points:

  • 230-day market supply
  • 8,020 units available
  • 1,567 recent sales
  • $41,729 average price
  • Iconic two-door off-roader

Compared to other costly cars, the shortage of the jeep wrangler is unique in the fact that its same total volume sold is still much higher. This is simply because the production of it has resulted in even higher inventories to the point that shoppers are looking at a may to choose among new jeeps rather than fighting over a few. Shoppers that are open to different trim, color or equipment combos are able to look at a plethora of dealerships and even get better deals when dealers are trying to shed inventory. It is not enough just to pick out a vehicle that looks attractive in a dealership showroom. At Market Day Supply, we offer helpful insights about the rate at which a specific vehicle is selling and about whether dealerships are holding larger than normal inventories of a vehicle.
