BMW replaces the model designations of the iX electric SUV with the new xDrive45, xDrive60 and M70 variants. Electric power figures also go up significantly and the refreshed BMW iX model lineup boasts a higher charge capacity, longer driving range and a series of driver assistance, comfort, convenience and entertainment features. Along with the design updates, BMW has enhanced the model range, the new numbers and increased the electric power.
This mid-cycle refresh is mostly about adding more everyday usability and range to the all-electric luxury SUV. Significantly increased usable battery capacities add room for more charge, while new power electronics and battery-management technology enhance efficiency. The exterior and interior design, driver-assistance systems, and digital sales process have all been further developed, resulting in a more holistic update with both increased performance and usability.
1. Expanded Battery Capacities
The larger capacity of the refreshed iX ranges means BMW has effectively increased the net usable battery capacity of its SUVs without any major change in the physical size of their packs. The base xDrive45 now features a new 100.1 kWh battery pack with 94.8 kWh of usable capacity, up from 76.6 kWh in the outgoing xDrive40. That means the entry model is starting out life with a much more compelling basis to work from.

The xDrive60 increases usable energy capacity to 113.4 kWh, compared with 105.2 kWh in earlier model years. At the top of the lineup, the M70 uses a 112.6 kWh battery pack with specialized cell chemistry designed to support high power delivery. These NMC lithium-ion cells use an efficient prismatic format within BMW’s dedicated electric platform, while active liquid thermal management helps maintain appropriate operating temperatures. BMW also provides an 8-year or 100,000-mile factory warranty against battery capacity falling below 70 percent.
2. Increased Powertrain Output
Power has been upped across the refreshed iX range, which means that no matter which new model you buy, you’re getting a more performance-inspired driving experience. The xDrive45 gets an additional 80-82 horsepower (depending on the model), for total system output of 402-408 horsepower, and that means even the base model gets from 0-62 mph in 5.1 seconds, which is noticeably more punchy for this large luxury SUV.

The xDrive60 produces between 536 and 544 horsepower and up to 564 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to reach 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. At the top of the range, the M70 develops up to 659 horsepower and 811 lb-ft, or 1,100 Nm, of torque when Launch Control is engaged. This enables the high-performance model to reach 62 mph in only 3.8 seconds and achieve a top speed of 155 mph. The combination of increased output and the iX’s electric power delivery gives every version a stronger and more immediate response.
3. Silicon-Carbide Inverters and Efficiency Gains
The updated iX now also features high-voltage SiC (silicon-carbide) inverters which generate less heat while converting electricity. Combined with lower-friction wheel bearings and other low-resistance chassis components, BMW says this combination delivers around 10 percent improved overall efficiency for the large EV SUV. This is the equivalent of a bigger battery that provides more range for the same size of pack, in other words.

BMW has also refined the battery-management software so that more of the physical battery capacity can be used safely without compromising long-term durability. The system continuously monitors individual cell conditions and helps prevent excessive thermal stress during periods of high power demand. A standard heat pump manages cabin heating and cooling requirements while also helping condition the battery. Tested energy consumption figures place the updated iX in the 16.9 to 17.9 kWh per 100 km range, supporting its focus on improved efficiency.
4. Extended Driving Distance and MAX RANGE Mode
This is further helped by increased battery size and increased electrical efficiency, as well as combined to give the refreshed iX much more driving range. With the entry level 20-inch wheels, the xDrive60 can now deliver up to an official estimated range of 364 miles or 701 km (WLTP), making it a more practical proposition for those drivers who want less frequent stops and more from their BMW iX battery.

BMW has also introduced a MAX RANGE driving mode for situations where the remaining battery charge becomes limited. The system works by optimizing power output, reducing the vehicle’s maximum speed, and adjusting climate-control operation to preserve energy. Under suitable conditions, these changes can extend the remaining driving distance by as much as 25 percent. During real-world long-distance testing, the xDrive60 demonstrated strong endurance over highway journeys, while its improved battery-cell layout provides additional confidence for both daily commuting and extended road trips.
5. Enhanced Charging Speeds and Pre-Conditioning
Charging has also been enhanced in the iX update, with the higher-capacity battery versions capable of achieving up to 195-200 kW of high-speed DC fast-charging. (This enables about 10 to 80 percent DC fast-charging time of roughly 28 to 35 minutes under ideal charging conditions.) As with the battery range improvements, the revised charge times work well with the maximum charge rates achieved for the higher-capacity batteries.

The xDrive45 supports DC charging at up to 175 kW, while AC charging capability ranges from 11 kW to 22 kW depending on the variant. BMW has also improved battery pre-conditioning, particularly when the driver selects a charging station as a destination through the navigation system. The My BMW App adds route-planning and charging integration across major public charging networks, while Plug & Charge Multi Contract is designed to make public charging authentication easier. Together, these features make the charging process more integrated into everyday EV use.
6. Exterior Styling Refinements
Exterior design changes to the new iX include various refinements that help give the electric SUV a more athletic and modern appearance. A more modern grille design with vertical line elements has been introduced, now flowing toward the more streamlined LED headlights, which minimizes the visual bulk of the kidney grille. Available BMW Iconic Glow illuminated contours are especially striking in the dark and from the front of the vehicle.

7. Carbon-Fiber Composite Body Construction
Beneath its new skin, the iX still utilizes a dedicated EV platform that integrates lots of CFRP, or carbon fiber reinforced plastic, combined with lightweight aluminum parts. This multi-material spaceframe set it apart from EVs built on conversions of platforms that were originally engineered around an internal-combustion engine. 8. Upgraded iDrive 8.5 Cabin Technologies
Among the changes to the interior of the refreshed iX is the BMW Curved Display within the cabin, which runs BMW’s iDrive Operating System 8.5. The updates have been made to offer quick responses, streamlined menu navigation and all-new digital capabilities such as video streaming and gaming features, which can be accessed during breaks while the vehicle is charging using the DC fast-charging capabilities. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant has also been improved.

The driver is alerted to the readiness of the system to execute a lane change when he confirms the lane change by glancing at the corresponding side-view mirror.
