Exploring the Redesigned 2026 Chevrolet Corvette Interior and Key Feature Updates

The 2026 Chevrolet Corvette will get a much-needed cabin update with its center-mounted engine design. It is indeed responding directly to one of the most debated ergonomic choices for the current car. Chevrolet has ditched the huge vertically oriented partition of climate controls between the driver and passenger compartment. This overhaul opens the center cockpit up while also allowing Chevrolet a fresh perspective on where a lot of controls need to be located and gives you an interior that feels much more open while maintaining the necessary sports car nature.

Instead of ditching physical controls altogether, or hiding each function behind layers of digital menus, the redesigned cabin strikes a more balanced chord. Chevrolet sticks a collection of tactile buttons within reach for commonly used functions alongside big screens for information and tertiary creature comforts. A handful of controls have moved to more sensible locations, and a few new charging/display options make life easier for front and rear-seat passengers alike. The elimination of the center wall, the reorganization of climate controls, a scaled up multi-screen setup, and an available electrochromic hardtop work together to give the 2026 Corvette a better balanced and easier to work with cabin.

1. Removal of the Center Wall Partition

Finally, one of the most unique (and contentious) aspects of the mid-engined Corvette interior-the tall button stack between the driver and passenger seats- has been nixed for the 2026 model. In its place, Chevy equipped a robust, functional grab bar which widens up interior space. While the prior button tower may have been one of the more identifiable (and controversial) design features of the entire interior, its deletion is a significant redesign for the C8 cabin space.

  • Easier passenger interaction

By ditching the tall vertical controller strip and swapping it for a low-slung grab-handle structure-on the passenger’s side in particular-the cockpit feels so much roomier for that occupant, and the cockpit environment for the driver remains clearly driver-focused, though you aren’t now staring at such a dominating stack of controls, defining the separation you feel with the front passenger. You can also more readily and easily converse with side to side, or move from one to the other in the car-an important aspect for daily drivability that Chevy managed to not interfere with while keeping it a performance sports car inside.

2. Relocated Climate Control Buttons

Without the old, long, vertical row of controls, Chevy took the hard-wired climate controls and placed them horizontally below the infotainment screen. This new positioning allows for the main temperature and fan control to be located much more intuitively in the car. The controls are in a place that both the passenger and the driver can access without fumbling with the old vertically placed set of hard switches.

This relocation also means that visual searching required when driving is minimized. It is no longer necessary to look down a small vertical spine to find a particular climate function; the intended physical button can be clearly located along the row that has been created. Essential climate functions have retained a tactile and instantly accessible input for daily use in a driving environment. The console area made available has been used to facilitate this streamlined configuration without putting common climate functions entirely into touch-screens.

3. Passenger USB-C Charging Port

Along with the relocated door handle the USB-C port itself has moved, and it is now readily accessible for front-seat passengers. As the new grab handle is mounted low the cable does not have to reach awkwardly across the center console, and you know that you can quickly plug in whatever you need. The USB-C port itself is not much, but a welcome convenience added to the revamped Corvette interior.

Previously the passenger would have had the hassle of trailing their charging cables across the center console, or reaching them in an awkward position. By incorporating the USB-C port into the grab handle, it provides a convenient and natural position for passengers to keep their phone(s) topped up, while not restricting the other passengers or hindering the operations of the vehicle. It just further shows the 2026 remodel trying to fit in some functional items that was space to be used, rather than altering the feel.

4. Touchscreen-Integrated Climate Seat Tiles

Though most of Chevy’s crucial climate controls still take a physical button form, warmed and cooled seating controls take their post within the touchscreen. Chevrolet wisely didn’t bury those functions under a cascade of menu items and instead has established them as top-tier tiles perpetually positioned on the screen. This allows immediate access to warming and cooling functions without encroaching upon crucial physical inputs for more traditional heating and cooling settings.

The seat controls which are not touch are relatively large and have enough presence that you don’t have to navigate through several levels of sub menus in order to turn on the climate control in your Corvette. The new design is then a combination of both physical and touch with common touch functions such as seats and quick temps for air in the main large display with dedicated physical buttons for things that need quick adjustment from most drivers such as the actual temp setting and source for climate. This frees Chevy to go back to simplifying some buttons without losing readily accessible controls.

5. Steering Wheel Charge Button for E-Ray

Chevrolet has added a steering wheel-mounted button, which is unique to the hybrid Corvette E-Ray, so that the battery may be charged up at will. This gives the driver a direct, tactile ability to control the state of the electric-powered C8 vehicle’s charging management without needing to search for a specific control within the cockpit. It seems to be exclusive to the electrified, hybrid system only and gives a little more instant control.

E-Ray Charging Highlights:

Having the charging control located right there on the steering wheel allows the driver to have direct input to that part of the hybrid system without ever removing their hands from the wheel. That aspect of managing the powertrain can save significant effort during aggressive driving and technically oriented roads when quick access to that feature might be helpful. Rather than having the drivers have to maneuver to the screen or reach for center console, Chevrolet has relocated it within reach. It’s just further proof that the revived Corvette blends a full array of digital interfaces with physical controls only when they make sense.

6. Drive Mode Toggle Switch

Ergonomics gets a huge facelift with the drive mode selection for the 2026 Chevrolet Corvette. If you don’t remember the cumbersome rotary knob coupled with its own unique palm rest taking up a large area on the center tunnel, then well, so did I. Chevrolet have changed the whole thing to a tiny toggle switch just next to the gears on the center tunnel for the selection of drive modes for the 2026 model.

Drive Mode Highlights:

  • Positioned beside gear controls
  • Cleaner central tunnel
  • Faster mode selection

The shift makes a welcome visual improvement to the center console and also frees up precious real estate around the controls, by allowing that large portion of the console that used to house the rotary selector and palm rest to make way for the new toggle switch, enabling much quicker access within a much smaller space, letting you rapidly flip through the drive settings while still ensuring that the essential controls were close at hand, the decision shows that Chevrolet is taking this redesign in order to eliminate unwanted visuals and physical elements, while retaining fast and fluid control over the Corvette’s performance driving features.

7. Center Console Wireless Charger

A sensible usability update is found in the new location of the wireless smart phone charging pad. On older models of the mid-engined Corvette, the wireless charger was located high up on the rear firewall between the two front seats. This position was perhaps not the most convenient for storing or removing a cell phone; it forced the occupants to have to reach behind themselves for the device instead of being able to grab it easily from the center stack.

  • Better everyday usability

After eliminating the enormous drive-mode knob and the palm rest that comes with it, Chevy successfully integrated the wireless charging onto the center console instead. Not only is a smartphone in a reachable position when relocated to the center console, a cell phone would remain in its place even when the vehicle is in motion, which is certainly a necessity when in sports car that one would like to keep his/her cell phone handy without dealing with any cables or jerky motion in such setup. This relocation creates a storage space where it used to be wasted, thus making a Corvette more convenient when being driven in a daily commute.

8. Multi-Screen Display Layout

Inside, the digital cockpit on 2026 Corvette gains substantially with a three-screen configuration. The central touch screen of the infotainment system grows considerably with the size increasing from 8.0-inches up to 12.7-inches which now adds both Apple Car Play and Android Auto completely within the display. Directly in front of the driver, a 14-inch screen offers a full high-definition digital display to present such driving data as speed, engine gauges and the like.

  • 12.7-inch center touchscreen
  • 14-inch digital instrument cluster
  • 6.6-inch auxiliary display
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Performance-focused information

The third display is a new 6.6-inch auxiliary screen positioned to the left of the steering wheel. Its purpose is to provide additional dynamic information without overcrowding the main instrument cluster or infotainment display. Performance pages and auxiliary gauges can show information such as real-time lap times and g-force readings, creating a more immersive driving environment for performance-focused users. Together, the three displays give the Corvette a modern, technology-rich cockpit while keeping different categories of information separated across dedicated screens rather than forcing everything onto one interface.

9. Backlit Volume Knob

Also, Chevrolet is responding to a smaller but still valuable nighttime usability complaint by providing a back light for the physical volume knob. Even with modern cars placing more and more controls on touch screens, the old physical knobs are often valuable precisely for when drivers need to make quick adjustments without taking their eyes off the road. For many of us, an unmarked dial simply gets frustrating in a dark interior, even for a task as simple as changing the volume.

  • Easier nighttime visibility
  • Quick audio adjustments
  • Reduced cabin distraction

This new, muted lighting is excellent for helping drivers quickly reference the knob, but it doesn’t allow a painful light to enter the interior. The drivers can easily find and turn the knob, more naturally and especially when lighting conditions are dim. This addition is tiny compared to the rest of the dashboard and bigger displays, but I give it to Chevrolet for looking to every day ergonomics. An actual volume knob also works well with what will be philosophy of the newly re-bodied Corvette: mixing physical, touchable dials and buttons with modern tech; but with less of a disappearance than a whole generation’s worth of control buttons.

10. Electrochromic Hardtop Option

The redesigned Corvette also offers an available electrochromic hardtop option designed to improve weather adaptability and control the amount of light entering the cabin. The Corvette’s composite body and aluminium spaceframe already support its role as a four-season daily driver, making additional cabin comfort particularly useful when conditions change. The electrochromic hardtop adds another way for occupants to control their environment without relying on a traditional physical shade.

  • Better daylight control

The variable-tint glass lets drivers electronically adjust the hardtop’s transparency, bringing in natural light when clear or reducing sunlight, heat, and glare when darker. Combined with the redesigned interior, it makes the Corvette more comfortable and practical beyond pure performance driving. Other updates, including the removal of the center wall, relocated controls, easier charging access, expanded digital displays, and useful physical controls, improve everyday usability. Together with features such as the passenger grab handle, wireless charger, E-Ray steering-wheel button, three-screen setup, backlit volume control, and electrochromic hardtop, these changes create a more open, organized, and practical 2026 Corvette cabin while preserving its driver-focused identity.
