While not confined purely to his music, that career has also stretched over the years. A 13-time Grammy winner, music producer, fashion icon and, ultimately, creator, he’s carefully constructed his own unique vision throughout every avenue he has explored. There’s a character similar to all that apparent in his incredible garage, full of both exclusive performance cars and opulent British transport alongside customized classics and cutting-edge contemporaries. The contents of his garage aren’t all about the expensive badge and all possess characteristics which demonstrate part of his appreciation for good design, performance, uniqueness and originality.

Williams’ eclectic taste sees him own everything from an ultra-rare Ferrari Enzo and the historically important Porsche 550 Spyder to the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren “the best car I ever owned” the luxury that Rolls-Royce affords, an early model of hybrid SUV, a heavily modified Harley Davidson motorcycle, and the almost impossibly futuristic Tesla Cybertruck. The deep affection for the Bugatti Veyron and his ‘creation’ of the JOOPITER Joyride luxury car auction shows that cars really form part of the fabric of his broader interests in art, fashion, music and design.

1. 2003 Ferrari Enzo

At the very apex of Pharrell William’s hypercar accumulation sits the 2003 Ferrari Enzo; perhaps, the ultimate luxury Ferrari hypercar as the Enzo itself was built as pure homage to Formula 1 technology. The Enzo was designed specifically as a direct representation of F1 car technology, given the name Ferrari’s revered founder, limited to just 400 units. As an iconic part of Williams’ amassed collection, it arguably stands to be the most exclusive the hypercar collector possesses; designed, from base, for F1. On the far performance end, you have the Ferrari Enzo. Limited in production, it’s one of the most exotic rides available, and it’s so technically sophisticated (and takes so many queues from F1) that it even feels more exotic than the typical modern supercar. The fact that it packs a staggering 660HP from its V12’s 6.0-litres means it’s also otherworldly in its acceleration. The fact that Williams owns it also makes the car very compelling to me. He actually apparently paid just under $2 million for the Enzo (despite there being quite a few purchasing restrictions on owning a Ferrari).

2. Porsche 550 Spyder

Perhaps one of the strangest of and most historically significant vehicles associated with Pharrell Williams is a 1955 550 Spyder Porsche. Of the 90 roadsters originally built, its very low weight was what the model required when it came to getting performance out of its 1.5 Liter motor producing just under 110HP, a rather meagre setup in terms of today’s hypercars, and with a body weighing just around 1200 lbs provides a totally different driving experience. The lightweight construction enables the Porsche to have fun on manual but has relatively little power for this time. Williams chose to make his one step odder by designing and styling the car with friend, arguably, the world’s most famous artists; KAWS. The original body was finished in a somewhat bluish silver and was adorned with KAWS’ famous brown cloud with eyes which seemed to transform the classic roadster into an “own race” artwork rather fitting.

However, Williams’ choice truly set it apart through art. With KAWS, Williams changed the exterior of the car with this bluish-silver paint combined with eyes in the form of brown clouds.

3. Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

Designed by Mercedes-Benz and McLaren combined the SLR McLaren GT is a particularly significant element of the Pharrell Williams collection. The machine is inspired by the classic silver arrow heritage of Mercedes racing with a long and imposing bonnet and emotional GT shape. 4. Rolls-Royce Phantom VII

When Williams decides against pure thrill ride and opts for comfort, his black Rolls-Royce Phantom VII plays the part of something entirely different. The pickup uses incredibly resistant 30X cold-rolled stainless steel on its outside, the type of substance I associate quite naturally with the design choices of Williams. Equipped with dual electric motors generating a substantial 600 hp he can take the Cybertruck to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, so as an object of show not even the high-performance specs let him down. The all-metal electric pick-up has since been seen many times with the Williams leading the wheel, on one occasion taking his son Rocket to a Louis Vuitton pop-up event in Miami’s Design District in the vehicle, during which he struggled to master parallel parking the huge electric truck between two cars, only to pass it over to the valet with good grace.

Visually, the Cybertruck offers a totally distinct narrative to the rest of Williams’ group. Whilst the Ferrari Enzo is steeped in racing pedigree and the Rolls-Royce Phantom is quintessentially luxurious; the Cybertruck is an object d’art representing futurism through electricity. Its stainless-steel exterior combined with an angular design truly give it a statement in any crowd. Matching its odd, futuristic look, is the Cybertruck’s performance. With two electric motors producing 600hp the pickup accelerates from 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. Williams actually drove the Cybertruck a lot instead of keeping it as a garage ornament; in fact an especially memorable moment was him arriving at the Louis Vuitton pop-up in Miami with the Cybertruck and fumbling to parallel park it until he eventually just passed off the keys to a valet.

7. GMC Yukon Hybrid

Long before plug-in hybrid luxury-car, status symbol culture, there was Pharrell Williams, and he bought a GMC Yukon Hybrid. His new truck will boast 332hp from its 6.0L V8 and offer plenty of utility in a larger, low-emission package. Williams’ approach to the purchase was simple and enthusiastic: Buy hybrids; it’s something people should just do. And the Yukon doesn’t exist as a garage queen, by any means. It is Williams’ everyday driver: these dark black people carrier can be seen pulling up to venues on his cross-country gigs, making grocery store runs or going to the mailbox. Which makes it have rather more utilitarian duties than some of Williams’ more exclusive possessions-and confirms that his love affair with cars doesn’t purely extend to flamboyance and blistering acceleration.

While a multitude of the Pharrell’s cars may appear slightly obscure due to their exclusivity; The Yukon Hybrid seems to shed Pharrell in to more of an everyday persona. The vehicle itself presents numerous benefits, not only by being a large SUV it also carries great functional utility while still incorporating a more environmentally-friendly attitude with its hybrid make up. But Williams drives and daily, using this car just as much for transportation to shows across the nation, as he does to run local errands around town, all on a daily basis. While it shows the other extreme of Williams’ priorities of both comfort and show, that 6.0L, 332 hp V8 is actually useful in driving the performance that would be necessary for that much hauling across the county.

8. Custom Harley Davidson Americana

Pharrell Williams’ appetite for unique engineering design is satisfied by not two, but four wheels with the custom design Harley Davidson Americana motorcycle. Ordered by Williams himself in 2010, the motorcycle has been significantly modified to embrace the individual taste of Pharrell. By lowering the frame of 3 inches and imposing huge 23-inch wheels to both the front and the back, narrow handlebars were also fitted with the headlights profile being significantly lowered. However, the personalization goes further than just the posture. It includes a hand-crafted flatting rear fender; custom wrapped header pipes, and the exposed wiring is bundled neatly within a cloth wire loom. The saddle is finished in deer hide-yet another textile used on the bike to make a unique material pallet, each element carefully designed, built with collaboration and the art of customization.

The Harley Davidson Americana displays the effortless spill of Williams’ creative intuition into motorbikes. While the modifications that are made to this machine, turn it in to much of a more ‘personal’ mode of transport than a production item. Shortening the frame by three inches, has altered its entire aspect, while those massive 23-inch wheels achieve that spectacular result. It is the fine touches which really give the bike its uniqueness. It’s manually carved floating rear guard and individually re-wrapped pipes and fabric wiring give you a real sense of detail that was incorporated into the build. Unusual element also includes the deer-skin seat which further compounds that feeling that this has been done, with the visual identity of the entire machine in sync with the Williams take on art and style.

9. Bugatti Veyron

When you own and drive and undoubtedly relish one of the most envious car collections known to man-that can mean just about whatever you can imagine-there’s one of your all-time most coveted vehicles that’s missing from the garage. Pharrell’s. I’m talking about the insane Bugatti Veyron-for a really long time it’s been sort of the quintessence of extravagant mechanical design, insane speed, and pure, unapologetic automotive style. And as far as Pharrell’s been concerned, he’s looked at one for over a decade, and always loved having watched the Veyron’s approach rather than drive one. Williams has been vocal in saying he covets the quad-turbo Bugatti and admires its looks and incredible top speed-he has also admitted that while the Veyron came out somewhat hastily, it won’t be a collectible at the same level as the Enzo, even still its looks and speed appeal to him, the Veyron is for an all-ready fairly seasoned collector a very uncommon ‘un-realized’ car dream.

Interesting due to the Veyron Bugatti. It’s something Williams doesn’t already own, and already a fantastic garage containing an Enzo, an SLR McLaren and much more. But the Veyron is Williams personal dream machine, and its combination of spectacular style and sheer speed still appeal to him. I can’t see it has bought a Veyron though, for obvious reasons: Williams also contemplates its collectability. He comments that maybe the Veyron will not hold value like an Enzo does because it was such a fast revealed, but this does not decrease his passion for the automobile. He still loves it because of the exterior and because of the immense top speed. For a man who can usually get what car he desires, the Veyron is an unprecedented desire for a car.

10. JOOPITER Automotive Auction House

For Pharrell Williams, ownership is only one aspect of his automotive connection through the digital auction house, JOOPITER. Further cultivating his automotive creative process, Williams introduced the ‘Joyride’ car auction with some of the most exclusive machines belonging to individuals from creative industries. For this venture, Williams notoriously took over the streets of New York’s West Village, shutting down Morton Street to showcase the quirky collectible automobiles in its place-a showplace street level edition. Unique vehicles included one such as Daniel Arsham’s modified Porsche 911; and also, Michael Strahan’s BMW 850i Dinan to be among the pieces shown. Williams described JOOPITER as a ‘space where experimentation would have an effect on how we look at an object’, the car auction mirrored his concept.

Clearly the Joyride auction is an instance that proves Williamses much more enthusiastic about automotive concerns that could possibly fit in his personal collection of cars. With the JOOPITER event, he established a way that the cars are placed and viewed not just as tools or investments, but as an art object. The street display of this belief that took place on the street on Morton Street, in New York City’s West Village proved to be exactly that. This choice echoed the uniqueness which seemed a consistent thread throughout Williams’ collection of possessions. In Daniel Arsham’s modified Porsche 911 and Michael Strahan’s BMW 850i Dinan, striking vehicles were pooled together and for the event.
