Toyota is now combining significant hardware upgrades with expanded charging partnerships to make battery-electric cars more accessible and easier to own.

The brand is introducing the next-generation battery-electric Toyota bZ with critical upgrades to its powertrain, charging speed, and driving range. The car features native North American Charging Standard (NACS) ports, enabling Tesla Supercharger access, and improved onboard charging capacity. Toyota has also made numerous refinements to the bZ’s infotainment system, cabin technologies, and comfort features. 1. Native NACS Charging Port

Toyota’s 2026 bZ model gets a factory-installed North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, granting direct access to Tesla’s Supercharger network. Notably, the car doesn’t require any adapters to use the growing number of NACS chargers in the region. Toyota has also released charging adapters that enable owners to use existing J1772 ports with most public charging stations.

Toyota has announced that it will provide complimentary NACS charging adapters to eligible bZ4X owners. The adapters are available for 2023, 2024, and 2025 model year bZ4X vehicles with built-in CCS1 ports. Additionally, Toyota dealers will begin distributing the adapters in November 2024.

Toyota has implemented Plug & Charge technology, a feature that aims to make public charging more convenient for bZ owners. After pairing the car with the Toyota mobile application, drivers only need to plug in the charging cable for the system to authenticate and initiate the billing process.

Toyota has partnered with Apple to bring Apple Maps EV Routing to battery-electric cars equipped with Toyota Audio Multimedia and Apple CarPlay. The onboard maps system can suggest charging stations to drivers in real-time based on the car’s power needs and overall progress towards the destination.
