“Working with the engineers we could certainly get into the weeds a bit,” Hildebrand said. “We did a little suspension and alignment tweaking over the last couple days to further optimize things. The team didn’t go for full ‘off’ on the electronic assistance and trusted the Magne Ride system for Track Mode and full assistance in the traction control settings. Prior to Chevy’s attempt, David Donner set the course on fire in a Porsche 911 Turbo S with a time of 9:53.740, proving that a production car could certainly turn incredibly quick times up the treacherous incline. Hildebrand started the run and suspense immediately mounted when data wasn’t displayed on the official timing board throughout most of his ascension. Waiting for a time from either team or their legions of supporters built the tension to an almost unbearable point.
However, all suspense was immediately dissolved when JR Hildebrand hit the finish line in an astounding 9:30.104. Not only had the latest Corvette broke the previous production car record, it shattered it.
